I think it's originally Arabic from where Turks got the word, among a lot of other words.

It's originally from Arabic, اسمر (asmar) it means 'brown'.

            ITS NOT TURKISH!!

Who gave the Turks their culture? Arabs, Greeks and Armenians, thats who. any Turkish word not of Mongolian origin is obviously from the above.

I thought we were talking about "Esmer" not "Asmar"

Didn't you said your family name is "Esmerian" and you wanted to know what "Esmer" means?

And "Asmar" means dark skin not brown, brown is "buenney" in Arabic

ha, asmar in arabic - brown skin/dark skin etc same

because you cannot say 'esmer' in arabic, it comes 'asmar', so armenians got it from arabic and armenified it, or some kept the arabic way to say, thats why we have two seperate armenian names now Asmarian ev Esmerian. i was just wondering if it was infact a pure armenian word, i wasnt sure so i came to ask. obviously it must come from my theory, and then turks copied from us.

i mean its like saying kebab, turks say kebab too, but is kebab turkish word? no is not! its arabic word كباب
