Nice article Fed. I wonder if this had anything to do with Fiat's recent increase in ownership of Chrysler. Libya had a pretty hefty investment in Fiat so it looks like the buck is being passed around.

Its more likely to be an EU adventure this time round, like Frances fun in the Ivory coast, the US fires missiles, Nato (not including the US as it already has Afghanistan and Iraq for standing armies) meaning the UK and France occupies Libya and secures i.e. steals its oil. and crushes the democracy movement.

Cameron and Sarkozy are Zionist neocons. However what they are doing in Libya isn't merely a imperialistic adventure or an oil heist. As North Africa is of considerable, geostrategic importance to Europe.

Arab governance leaves a lot to be desired and corruption in all of these countries is systemic. North Africa has sociocultural problems and Southern Europe also badly needs to be cleaned up and secured.

Putin: NATO coalition has no right to kill Gadhafi

His comments come as Britain and the United States discuss stepping up military pressure on the Libyan leader

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sharply criticized the Western coalition attacking Libya on Tuesday, saying it had neither a right nor a mandate to kill Moammar Gadhafi.

Putin said the coalition had gone beyond the bounds of a U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing intervention to protect civilians and suggested Gadhafi's actions did not justify foreign interference, let alone attempts to remove him.

"They said they didn't want to kill Gadhafi. Now some officials say, yes, we are trying to kill Gadhafi," Putin said on a visit to Denmark. "Who permitted this, was there any trial? Who took on the right to execute this man, no matter who he is?"

Putin spoke as Britain and the United States discussed stepping up military pressure on Gadhafi, who has survived more than a month of NATO air strikes.

"The country's whole infrastructure is being destroyed, and in essence one of the warring sides is attacking under the cover of aircraft," Putin said at a news conference after talks with his Danish counterpart, Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

"When the entire so-called civilized community falls upon a small country with all its might, destroys infrastructure created over generations -- I don't know, is that good or not?" Putin said. "I don't like it."

Shortly after Putin spoke, Libyan state news agency Jana said Libya had urged Russia to call an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council to discuss "Western aggression."

In Moscow, Russia's Foreign Ministry said nobody was available to comment on the report.

Putin called Gadhafi's Libya "crooked" but said that did not justify intervention.

The Rebels seem to have taken Misratah (or at least whats left of it). Must of been some fight and the rebel have definitely got potential.

Half-naked girls descended on the European Commission in Moscow to protest against the war in Libya. They brought mattresses with Gaddafi portraits, claiming the European leaders started the war because they do not sleep well.

xWednesday’s action saw one of the three girls that had taken off their shirts in front of the Commission building, detained by police.

The slogans of the protest were: "Make Love, not War!", “Send to sleep the spirit of war!” and “Mattress and breasts – forget about war”.

The girls say they wanted to attract attention “to the recent events in Libya, where three mighty superpowers fight against a small defenseless state”.

They claim that the operation began because EU leaders sleep on “awful, old mattresses”.

“With such an approach, they constantly do not get enough sleep, have health problems and thus are mad at the whole world.”

Therefore, the activists took along comfortable mattresses for the British and French leaders with a portrait of Colonel Gaddafi and their slogans on them.

xA similar action is planned at the US embassy in Moscow with a mattress prepared for Barack Obama.

The protest was the first action of the RU-FEMEN movement, the Russian branch of the scandalously famous feminist FEMEN movement that appeared in Ukraine several years ago. Its members constantly organize protest actions in big cities, trying to attract attention to acute social and political problems. The actions are quite popular with the media as FEMEN members usually protest naked or with few clothes.

I'm pretty good at multi-tasking at work so it's not that much of a distraction, lol.

Russia won't support any further intervention in Libya, if the West fails to take control, Russia will be in position to pick up the pieces. The Western plan at the moment is to get Turkey involved since Libya is composed of ex Ottoman states.

The Eastern part of Libya where the rebels have a "strong hold" could just break away if the military intervention is unable to consolidate Libya as a whole.

New U.S. Sanctions Policies Provide for Libya Oil and Gas Licensing

On April 26, 2011, the U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took steps to broaden and clarify its policies for licensing petroleum transactions involving the Transitional National Council of Libya (TNC), the anti-Gaddafi opposition in eastern Libya. These new measures provide a basis for U.S. persons to engage in TNC-linked oil and gas transactions that otherwise could be barred by President Obama's February 25, 2011 broad sanctions order "Blocking Property and Prohibiting Certain Transactions Related to Libya," E.O. 13566.

First, Treasury issued General License No. 5, a blanket authorization for U.S. persons to engage in transactions involving Qatar Petroleum or the Vitol group of companies related to oil, gas, or petroleum products exported from Libya under the auspices of the TNC. OFAC's authorization is granted subject to the condition that neither the Government of Libya nor any other blocked person (with the exception of Arab Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), operating under the auspices of the TNC) receives any benefit from such transactions. Special reporting and due diligence requirements attach to such transactions to ensure the Government of Libya is not involved.

Also on April 26th, OFAC issued a Statement of Licensing Policy establishing a favourable regime through which U.S. persons can request authorization, on a case-by-case basis, to engage in the following dealings:

The purchase from the TNC, the exportation from Libya, and/or the importation into the United States of oil, gas, and petroleum products produced in areas of Libya under the control of the TNC
The trading, importation, and exportation of, and other dealing in or related to, oil, gas, and petroleum products produced in areas of Libya under the control of the TNC
All transactions, including but not limited to investment, involving the production and transport of oil, gas, and petroleum products produced in areas of Libya under the control of the TNC

All licences are subject to the provision that the Government of Libya, its agencies, instrumentalities, and controlled entities - with the exception of entities operating in areas controlled by the TNC and under the auspices of the TNC - do not receive any benefit from such activities or transactions.

Gaddafi's son killed in Libya

Tripoli - A Nato air strike killed Muammar Gaddafi's youngest son and three grandchildren but the strongman escaped unhurt, a Libyan spokesperson said on Sunday, after rebels and Nato spurned an offer for talks to end the crisis.

The house of Seif al-Arab Gaddafi, 29, "was attacked tonight with full power," government spokesperson Moussa Ibrahim told a news conference, announcing the deaths in the Saturday evening strikes.

The Libyan leader and his wife were in the building but were not harmed, Ibrahim said, calling the strike "a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country."

"The leader himself is in good health; he wasn't harmed. His wife is also in good health; she wasn't harmed, (but) other people were injured," he added.

Ibrahim later said intelligence on Gaddafi's whereabouts appeared to have been "leaked," adding: "They knew about him being there, or expected him for some reason."

Lost a daughter

Gaddafi had lost an adopted daughter in a US air raid in 1986.

Ghadafi's 3 grandchildren were also killed in the attacks. Vandals attacked the Italian and British embassies in the Libyan capital in response. This must be how the British crown celebrates newlyweds in their family.
