I read that his infant daughter was killed back in '86 when the U.S. launched air strikes on Tripoli and Benghazi.

I think he eventually had to give into imperialist demands when they framed him for the Lockerbie bombing in '88. Finally, after seeing what they did to Iraq, I think he feared he was next. So Gadhafi tried to ward off further threatened aggression by making big political and economic concessions to the imperialists. He opened the economy to foreign banks and corporations; he agreed to IMF demands for “structural adjustment,” privatizing many state-owned enterprises and cutting state subsidies on basic necessities like food and fuel. That was the beginning of the end for Gadhafi's Libya.

I think blaming "Al-Qaeda" and international terrorism is a great tactic... seems to work elsewhere in the world, lol.

In current times mixture has occured with the ethnic European subjects of the colonial powers that controlled North Africa. A very mixed people indeed.
Whilst the Iberians, Egyptians and Phoenicians where amongst the first seafaring peoples to colonize the Mediterranean. They where not the first people to populate the region and the Mediterranean has a mind-bogglingly complex history.

In the 680's the Arabs swept across North Africa from Egypt to the Atlantic and it's the Arabized Berbers (Moors), who later invaded Iberia. However the Berbers are indigenious to North Africa and they have very ancient cultural ties to the Atlanto-Mediterranean cultures of the West.

In Iberia the Celts mixed with the indigenious Iberians and gave rise to the Celtiberians. However the Celts like their Indo-European brothers, the Germanics, Latins and Greeks aren't originally from the region.

You see, the Iberians like the Baques and Lapps in Northern Europe where an indigenious European peoples. The difference between the Arabized Berbers and the Berbers is that the Arab population are more closely related to African populations. Whilst the Berbers are more closely related to their European neighbours.

What people fail to understand is that the Arabized Berbers, Arabs, xxxs and their dimwitted African lackeys are all usurpers in North Africa and that all of the lands of North Africa to the West of the Nile rightfully belong to the Amazigh.

Yes, I know. However, there were many tribes in Iberia of related but differed ethncities, there was no Iberian ethnicity per se.

The Iberian tribes where a distinct peoples in their own right and they had ties with other Mediterranean cultures, such as the Phoenicians and Greeks. However long before the Phoenicians founded Carthage, the Iberians and Celts in Iberia had merged to become the Celtiberians.

During the Punic Wars between the Carthaginians and the Romans. The Celtiberians maintained a strategic alliance with the Phoenicians. So when Hannibal's army failed to conquor Rome. The Gallaecians army ended up facing and falling to the army of the Roman general Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus.

However after the Punic wars, Rome having broke the Phoenicians, Mediterranean monopoly on trade. The Romanised Phoenicians fell into decline and the Iberian, Western Roman empire became powerful economic centre.

Now a days, most North Africans are Arabized Berbers (Moors). The reason why the East Africans have around 40% Eurasian ancestry is that Eurasian Neolithic farmers expanded into Northern and Eastern Africa from the Near East. By the same note East Africans elements also have entered Northern Africa and Arabia. However the Amazigh are indigenious to North Africa and have lived in the region for far longer than anyone else.

I dunno, looks like the uprising is going to fail.....

Libya violence escalating 'alarmingly': UN official

Asked by the interviewer if his family has a "plan B" in the face of the growing unrest in Libya and plans to leave the country, Gadhafi's son replied as he tapped his index finger into the palm of his hand: "We have Plan A, Plan B and Plan C."

"Plan A is to live and die in Libya, Plan B is to live and die in Libya, Plan C is to live and die in Libya," he said, pointing to a map of Libya.

The interview was conducted late Thursday by CNNTurk's news anchor Cuneyt Ozdemir, who said he flew in and out of Tripoli to meet with Gadhafi's son.

The excerpt appears on Ozdemir's website, www.dipnot.tv ahead of the full broadcast of the interview on CNN-Turk.

On Thursday, Gadhafi blamed international terrorism and al-Qaeda for brainwashing youth and spurring the turmoil in his country

It could fail. Gadhafi is at a point of no retturn now since many have already died, he's gonna have to take Libya back with brute force. The media is saying the eastern part of the country is out of his control so he's gonna have to roll some tanks in.

Yesterday two pilots bailed out of their jet and let is crash in refusal to bomb the people. I wonder if the no fly zone setup by the West has taken effect yet.

They're not sure yet about who's gonna win so they try to keep their foot in two shoes. Or maybe they can't afford the fuel for the patrols.

They were distinct peoples correct, but they were not a coherent or clearly defined ethnic group. Just as in 2000 BC Armenians were not a coherent ethnic group but there indeed were Armenic tribes. So was the case in Iberia.

The east of the country is free (however people are still getting killed there) and the key now is Tripoli. Gadhafi forces are amassed in Tripoli and it will be hard for the rebels to take the capital. However it's next to impossible for Gadhafi regimes survive at this point.
