What disturbs me is not so much the possibility of, or faith inA spiritual creator. What disturbs me is that we have based our faith of said creator on words in a book written by a handful of men a couple thousand years ago. We are putting faith in those men that there is a god, not in god itself.

I love how you're attacking science, yet practically everything in life has been improved or created by science. Do you not take medication? Wear glasses? Watch TV?

Next time you're sick, pray to God to heal you. Don't go to a hospital or to the doctor. Go to church or to a priest.
This assumes that only via science can all ills be cured, and that science and progress are all, the cream of the crop. But what I was saying was something deeper, perhaps too deep for purely empirical minds like you to comprehend. Western medicine views man as a biological/chemical entity, not a spiritual one. Have you not read of instances where people have been cured of cancer of purely spiritual healing? Of course, your false assumption that you should only believe in God until it is proven scientifically negates itself, for what is spiritual - God, and origins - is beyond the realm of the material. Thus scientific methology is itself a metaphysical assumption, and it will never answer things beyond the material world.

You can read the book and still not believe. I read the Bible when I was an atheist and it didn't make me believe in anything. Belief comes not from books, but from within.

Thus making stupid statements which you made, that only when science proves God, should we believe it, is pointless and show youre utter misunderstanding of logic, science, and philosophy. Please go bang your pseudo intellectual head on a wall for being a moron.

I hear about people who are cured of cancer through spiritual healing all the time.

Did I make the statement that you should only believe in God when science proves it? Quote that for me because I'd like to see where I said that.
I defended science... I didn't say anything about spirituality or God. You attack imaginary things that you think people said when they said no such thing. It's not the first time you've done it. Yet you call me a moron.

Cool thread Siggie. Can someone brief me on the details of this “mysterious” resurrection?

Basically this article was written saying that Jesus seemed to have displayed behaviors and attitudes consistent with those that have Temoporal Epilepsy. They also have some reason to believe (this summary doesn't go into this as much, but it was very popular at the time and in that area) that this particular root may have been consumed at the Last Supper.

When they have given laboratory rats this form of epilepsy and then given them that root... Sepitine? (something like that) and restrained them it has produced a deathlike state. Their body temp drops, heart rate and respiration drop as well. They drop so much so that they argue that by those of Jesus's time, they would be considered dead. The rats remain in this state for 3 days. When they wake they show severe brain damage.

So, what they are saying is that it is possible that this is what occured with Jesus. He may have woken up and walked out, but with such severe brain damage that he did not know who he was and he did not recognize anyone. Thus, if someone saw him, it could seem as if he were a ghost because he would not so much as glance at them.

Interestingly one of the effects that is produced by root is that it can make people suicidal... hmmm Judas?

But....doesn't that belief have to be based on something? If not the book, then what exactly are you basing your belief on? Where does it stem from? How do you know what is the "right" path, or what to believe in? I've asked this a half a dozen times now, but you and Lose were too busy going at it on some stupid, trivial and minute point to stop and answer someone else's perspectives/questions.

I already told you, belief comes from within, not without. You can read a thousand books like the Bible a thousand times, if faith does not come from within, it won't come from without. Take a good example like morality. Morality comes from within, conscience. The thing that protects people, property and our liberty is the morality that individuals possess in their own hearts. No law protects you from these things and it is a fallacy when people believe that government laws protect you from this or that. The law is not and cannot be a substitute for morality because no law can protect anyone from a dishonest person, crook, or thug because the law is always applied after the fact and often defenerates as with U.S. "justice" system.
