Today is a bad day. I have discovered an established contemporary artist who's work does not differ much from my own. I feel almost nauseated by this. It makes me want to stop painting.

You can't give up so easily, talent is a hard thing to have, and a harder thing to be seen put to waste.

I can just see it now...
I make more paintings and try to show them and everyone says "Were you influenced by [insert bastard's name]?" or "Oh that's just a rip-off of [insert bastards name]" and I will say Rothko and Malevich a million times and nobody will care. Phuck! Now I have to refine my approach even though it is apparent that my purpose is difference from his. I do not know how to do that. I hope he bleeds to death from the eyes.

And of course it does not help that my father is going to try and have an exhibit there.

I know we come from different places. I am reinterpretting the basis of Abstract Expressionism as it relates to using action and expression by redefining things interms of control and lack thereof and the balance of the two. I know he does not do that because he is purely minimalistic. Hopefully, I can make that difference obvious. Until then I will continue to cry.
