TURKEY: Austria Pours Cold Water on Turkish Entry Hopes

Top Austrian officials say Turkey far from ready for EU
    2005-06-13 18:25:04

Two top Austrian officials cast grave doubts yesterday on Turkey’s drive to join the EU, saying the mostly Muslim country simply isn’t ready — and might not be for another two decades. “I don’t consider Turkey ripe for entry,” Finance Minister Karl-Heintz Grasser told Austrian television. Bringing in the Turks, he added, “would make excessive demands of Europe.”

If European voters were to be asked in referendums whether to admit Turkey, just as some have been asked to pass judgment on the EU’s proposed new constitution, the answer would be a resounding “no,” Grasser said.

“I am against negotiations for the accession of Turkey,” he said during a round-table discussion with journalists on state broadcaster ORF’s weekly “Media Hour” program.
In an interview with the weekly news magazine Profil, Andreas Khol — president of the Austrian Parliament and a high-ranking member of Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel’s conservative Austrian People’s Party — said he can’t envision the Turks joining before 2025.

“The question of their entry won’t arise in the next 15 or 20 years,” Khol said, contending the recent French and Dutch rejection of the proposed EU Constitution reflected deep-seated unease over Turkey’s drive to join. Grasser was more blunt, calling the referendum results in France and the Netherlands “a warning shot.” He called yesterday for a Europe-wide referendum on Turkey’s accession.

LOL! Of course! In a very very very very close future, Europe will desperately need the shamelessly begging TEMPORARILY SO CALLED Turkey and will beg for your forgiveness and seek your company! What a koylu!
What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

Why do I smell jeaousy, is this all your anger aboutr Turkey-EU relations are because of Armenia? I mean are you so jealous about Turkey because your third world country Armenia have no hope to be a member of EU? I know that recognizing as European nation is very important for Armenians and as I read from this forum you are doing your best to proove that you are some sort of "Eastern European" Even some of you are ashemed of their middle eastern physical appearence. Is this anger all about these? Well, lets be honest, I know that some people in Turkey have this kind of inferiority complex like you to become "European" But I am not one of them. I have been almost all European countries and I know that Europe is not the society that I want to be a member because of human relations, racism and being a retirement club as I mentioned above. I recommend you the same, respect your own culture. You have a unique cultural position as caucasian, middle eastern and black sea region. Being European is at least a boring identity. So stop comparing Turkey and Armenia about EU and respect your own identity.

I remember that one of you claimed here that:
"some Turks are blondy because they stole our genes. Actually Armenians were blondy but you distorted our genes and we become brunette." Or something like this...
Well, Turks are not blondy in general but it seems that your minds are very confused about this identity issue. I know that at western countries where you live, being "white" is smoe kind of superior race against other and you are trying to prove your "white origin" usning your Christian identity, etc.
For my opinion you don't need this kind of labelling since you have a very respectful culture of thousands of years. Armenians were always good merchants, artists, etc of middle east. And finally stop this jealousy about Turkey's participation of EU and respect your real identity. Turkey's entrance to EU doesn't mean that Turkey is some kind of European. And the impossibility of Armenia's entrance to EU doesn't mean that you are second class, etc. So don't try to create cultural links between Armenians an Europeans, it is a shame for a respectful nation like you.
We can create a European link, too if we want. Turks are a Balkan nation with no doubt. But this doesn't mean that Turks are some sort of European fo my opinion. We only can say that Turks have strong links with Europe like Armenians.

"The ideal world. Europeans don't want you neither! Instead, we should revive the tradition of "Tete de Turc." LOL!"

            Di you said "we"?
            So you are a European...?

As I said above, your minds are very very confused about this identity issue.

Karakitap stop making the same argument again and again.I kindly proved you that Armenia belongs culturaly to Europe in another thread.

Now this is not from a propaganda site, but from wikkipedia.
As you see Armenia and Cyprus(Because of the Greek Cypriots) are both geographicaly in Asia but because culturaly they are European countries , they are counted as European one's.

I don't personaly give a crap if they consider me European or not and i dislike countries like France, England or Sweden who consider themselves advanced and civilized. But this is the fact my dear and Armenia is culturaly part of Europe, whether we like it or not.

PS:Nachichevan is added to Armenia in the map

Yes OK, you are European, Bravo to you!
BTW, Why don't you consider Georgia as European in the map?
It seems that only Armenia have this "priviledge" of being European around its neighbours. And I think all those Armenians living at middle east like Lebanon, Israel, Iran, etc have to be considered as "European" people of middle east.
                Being white and European...Sounds brilliant!
No problem that EU doesn't consider you as European, in fact you are.
I also remember from another thread that you will be proud if you are invited to Eurovision Song Contest.

Turk why are you so slow to understand some certain things.I don't give a crap if they consider me European or not, unlike you Turks who are begging to enter in the EU. Armenia didn't tried untill now to enter in the EU,its Turkey which tries don't forget that.
The fact is we are not middle Eastern and i have nothing against midle Easterns.Middle Eastern culture is related with either Islam ,Judaism or Semitic people something which we are not.We are Indo Europeans and Christians thus naturaly our culture is related to Europe more than anything else. Why don't you go yourself and check in the internet about Armenian history instead of talking our of your arse?

OK, my friend, you can believe what you want. If you feel better, consider you as European. But in fact Armenians are middle easterns just like other easter Christians like Assyrians, Maronites, Keldanias, Nastourians, etc.
You are middle eastern both physically and culturally. Middle east is not consist of Islam or Judaism. Christianity itself is a middle east religion and stop this inferiority complex and accept your middle eastern links. Don't you seem that you are looking like a low-man when take a map and try to prove that you are some sort of European? Why do you deny your Asian origins? Don't you have a self-respect?

                      You are being ridiculous now.
Look, we have Middle Eastern ties .But Middle Easterns, we are not.Christianity started from Middle East indeed, but with your logic then all Europe, is Middle Eastern.
You mentioned me all those Middle Eastern people (Assyrians etc) but you forget the fact that they are not indo-europeans.Either way i don't care, like i said before, if i am considered European or not, because i don't like those western europeans and their snob attitude. But you can't re-write human history the way it suits you either.
