Yeah, me too. I don't think the skinheads will touch them, because Armenians are not percieved as middle eastern. We might have some influences and commonalities, but (I hope) one will not think of Armos as Arabs. Middle Easterners won't touch Armos because we are immigrants in Australia as well and not really part of the rich elite class (more like the working middle class).

But it is interesting that the chair of the community relations committee quoted in the report is Armenian. There have been very few racial tensions on a big scale involving the minority Armenians and the majority in the country. Jut it down to years of experience Armenians have had living as "pandukhts" in foreign lands.

Hi guys thought I'd write a few words just to say that we are OK. Ari will be ok for sure since he is in Melbourne, although wouldn't be surprised if something started there.
The riots began about a week ago now, yep and the usual hang out of mine. I live in the Northern beaches area so it’s not too close to home. My friends’ car got destroyed 2 nights ago outside his apartment block.

More riots are expected as there is now a sms going out urging all the Lebanese Australians to fight back on the 18th or the 20th (can’t remember).

And Karo jan, we don’t really look Arab, but they don’t really care, anyone with dark features is being attacked, just like the Italian guy who got attacked 2 days ago. Rioters were even attacking police who looked somewhat Lebanese or European.

          What an embarrassment to Australia.

Thanks for the concerns though this means no more trips to the Eastern suburbs for a while.

From what I read, what sparked this was apparently some Lebanese youths that killed some Australian lifeguards.

oh yea, Armenians carried out a demonstration last friday as Turkey's prime minister was visiting Australia to talk about trade. At the same time, there were somewhat 50 turkish people in town trying to welcome their hero.

Well about a week ago, a group of Middle Eastern guys attacked 3 lifeguards at Cronulla Beach. And the local residence (who happen to be mainly English/Australians) were outraged claiming police were not doing enough. They organised a demonstration (via sms) which turned into a disaster due to Alcohol being involved.

It's like, "Hey Gallipoli was great, how about we increase trade?"

It's funny that Lebanese folk are being targetted, especially since the governor of New South Wales, Marie Bashir, is Lebanese.
