One reason is because of the power women have over their own lives. They can make it on their own and don't need to be slave to any man. The divorce rates in more "traditional" settings is artificially much lower because simply the women do not have that choice to say hey, I want out. I had to change the thread title because the original thread starter had an offensive title.
The title was "Clean or Dirty" or some such thing, implying that someone who has had sex is "dirty" while someone who has not is "clean."
