Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Well said. Little she knows her early honeymoon will end before her marriage. Makes us wonder why she is on an Armenian forum since she found her temporary "female-husband". Do I get to pinch his azz too.

Re: If you couldn't marry an Armenian.....

I agree with a lot that you have said in the above post, but let me ask you, is there any point in perserving the Armenian culture in the Diaspora, if we plan to make it our permanent home? Why should Armenians marry other Armenians, if they don't plan to repatriate?

In clearer terms: inchu hye bidi @llank yete hayrenikin gab m@ chunenk?

I think that the new Armenian communities (20~ years old) have a lot to learn from the older (80~ year old) Armenian-American communities: Armenianism in America turns culturally stagnant at best and a cultural wasteland at worst. Just come see the 'Armenians' over here in the northeast or even in your own backyard in Fresno. The new generation doesn't speak Armenian and they think being Armenian consists of eating baklava and pilaf and going to rabiz-infested and mugham-infested 'kefs'! Seriously! Is this what is worth going out of our way for and preserving? I would hope not.

There's an Armenian nation out there that needs help...should diasporan Armenians stand idly by enjoying fancy cars and homes?

Re: If you couldn't marry an Armenian.....

You're twisting words and definitions around as if I didn't understand the point you were trying to get across. The point you were trying to get across was:

We have a choice in deciding whether we marry an Armenian or not.

Is this not correct? My question, in turn, was:

Why marry an Armenian, if you plan to make a life in the diaspora?

It was a valid question, yet somehow it too got 'bastardized' and interpreted as an attack on you or something. I don't know, nor do I care. All I know is that you are assuming some sort of 'high and mighty' position that is uncalled for and unbecoming of a young man such as yourself.

Needless to say, I think this could have been avoided by clearer definitions on both of our parts.

Anon implies that it is more important to satisfy the requirements of racial and cultural continuity than to repatriate. Repatriating just allows you to live in an environment or join a cause that could help you reach the former end perhaps, or to satisfy one's sentiment of nationalism. Though as he previously stated, he has a relative from Yerevan who chose to marry a Russian and this choice somehow managed to cripple the Armenian-ness that he wished to pass down on his children. This isn't necessarily what happens when you marry an odar, but the fact that it turned out this way, in Yerevan, should be rather eye-opening.

As I agree with you ... certain things should not be said to offend the opposite sex of our race. Your comment is as offensive as the gale that is happy humping a Polish guy.

Regarding the initial "If you couldnt" question, in reality If I ever married there doesnt seem to be any lack of Armenian men in the society in which I live so its really not a realistic question for me.

BUT if I lived somewhere that there was a lack of an Armenian community I think it would be very difficult to marry an odar.

Even though I have been raised here in the states I have been raised in a very traditional family and would like to be able to raise children in the same manner in which I was raised. I would want my family to be united in nationality, language, culture, tradition and lets face it a way of life that in a traditional home is different from that of most odar.

I know people in mixed marriages of various combinations and unfortunatly what I have witnessed is not always a marriage of continued happiness after the initial newness wears off. Family pressures from both sides play on the emotions of both people, differences in tradition, culture, language seem to errupt into obsticles that cant be overcome. I am not saying this happens in all mixed marriages, but in general this is what I have witnessed.

I consider myself to be open minded, "worldly", educated and tolerant of others and most of the people that I associate would fall into that category as well. We might be the people that some say are too americanized, but at our cores and in our heart of hearts we stay within our people, we value what our parents have handed down to us, we are proud of who we are and we stay together as such.

These issues may not be the issues that others consider as important when seeking a partner outside thier own race and culture, it is just my own opinion.

Odds are that the "Turk" we are talking about is really Greek and/or Armenian, genetically anyway.
