Armenians marrying "their own..." is nothing short of a myth - sadly - since I would say even in the first generation Armenians in United States already quite a lot of Armenians marry non-Armenians. I wish at least Armenian schools did more in this regard, but even in Armenian schools, you have Americanized Armenians who do not even speak Armenian to each other and most can barely even pass any of their Armenian Language and Literature subjects.

US prides itself on diversity, but we lose the multiculturalism when we lose the unique cultures and identities that make up the American mosaic which is replaced by the melting pot that brings everything down to uniform grayness.

I can understand your feelings, and this I think you Armenians guys should do to preserve your culture:

    1. All of you that are profoundly concern about the continuity of the Armenian culture, and live in the USA, should get back as soon as possible to Armenia. It make no sense that you are here wanted to preserve you culture in a country that don't care to much about it, except to declare some holidays and party about it.

    2. All men should improve the way you treat your women. Otherwise, the Armenian girls will continue to look to your neighbor as serious option for life. For what I read in this forum, is so easy to sense the "macho" attitude in a lot of the you that write here. No matter what nationality, sooner or later girls will get tired of this behavior.

    just my two cents.

People who make interracial marriages are not supposed to be assimilated under the identity of his/her spouse. I mean, cultural identity difference shouldn't be an obstacle for social events.
And how will the kids be raised? As Armenian or whatever the other parent is?

Very well put KanadaHye, Armanen and Federate. You each gave very good answers and your points well put and taken.

You see Jimm7 and Folk, our country unfortunately was build more than seven thousand years ago, we thaught the world calendars, agriculture, building structure and armaments. Our country was the cradle of civilization, intelligent little people but right in-between the crossroads between Asia and Europe, and because of it the barbaric mongolian turks and the seljuks charged in to our country constantly annihilating our people, the Greeks and the Babilonians/Assyrians and now we have such a small country called Armenia that it has merely 3 million people; the rest of us are in the Diaspora and we don't wish to be completely wiped-off from the face of the earth by not preserving ourselves, our culture and our blood. Since the 7 million of us live outside and most of our people were annihilated from 1915-1923 (more than 1.5 million of us) by the turkish government of the time, that gives us more reason to want to preserve our identity, our blood and our culture. The only way we could do this is by inter-marrying. However that does't mean that we don't help, like, befriend and respect other nationalities and or cultures; it just means that for the above good reasons we wish to preserve our identity as a nationality by intermarrying.

Interracial marriages are not assimilations as long as partners can live their cultures how they want.
It's not racism (the most loosely used term ever), it's survival. Most of the non-Armenians would not want to "become Armenian" therefore it is not acceptable. Either your partner will assimilate into being Armenian or nothing.

The world laughs at Americans because they have no identity... only Americans aren't aware of it.

If you read Armenian history you will understand why it is so important for Armenians to keep their identity, best way of doing that is living in Armenia, second best, if an Armenian is outside of the Homeland, is to marry an Armenian.

See if Mexico or some other Latin country's people lost their country or even if the majority of Mexicans were wiped out, their culture and the remaining Mexicans would be able to continue in the many other Latin countries and still have more less the same culture. With Armenia that is not the case, none of our neighboring countries nor any other country for that matter resemble us enough for the above scenario to work for us.
