Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

We didn't have these problems when I was growing up.

The reason you then don't get sick after a vaccine is that in fact you do have the immunity!
If the vaccine doesn't match to counter act the exact strain of virus that's circulating in the population, then you're putting needless strain on your immune system. You could possibly get sick anyways and now the vaccine was actually harmful instead of helpful.

Vaccines help build immunity, as Sip pointed out. They don't weaken your immunity. You got vaccinated in the "old country." I know I did... I got vaccinated for stuff in Iran that they don't vaccinate for here! For example Tuberculosis and Smallpox.

This is a whole different issue! Do you shift to a new topic when you're stuck or what?
This was a discussion about vaccinating children. You're turning it into something else. Stay on topic. If you want to talk about allergies, start another thread.

It's weakened. It doesn't stress the immune system much and even if it's not the same exact strain it can offer some protection. For example last years flu vaccine can still be somewhat helpful this year.

What vaccine are you talking about and what evidence is there that it would be harmful?

Re: Rising number of unvaccinated children in California

I suspect the peanut butter allergy thing has 2 separate factors .. again, I am just guessing here

First, we are now actually much more aware of such things. Sure it affects something like less than 1/2 percent of the population but at least if a kid just randomly dies in school, now we know why that was. Long ago, people probably had no clue .. especially in remote villages or places where there was no real medical expertise to diagnose something has strange as a deadly "peanut alergy" (I mean how often does it have to happen for people to connect the dots of peanut -> death!

Second, there are probably things we are doing now that have adverse side effects. Of course vaccines may be bad. Eating processed peanut butter may have horrible side effects. The problem is, without real scientific data, it is very easy to pontificate and blame this and that. We shouldn't just be affraid of new things .. at the same time, we shouldn't accept everything without questioning and investigating things either.
        this post = teh win.

I was referring to flu vaccines... not the major booster shots. I remember getting sick a lot as a child. I liked staying home and watching cartoons.

Wasn't the topic posted because certain people think vaccines might be the cause of autism... and related to exposure to mercury. I thought we were trying to unlink vaccines to something else gone awry in early child development?? Sheesh

I was just implying that creating immunization to a non existing strain of a virus seems like needless spyware on your system.

Yeah that would be dumb and that's probably why it doesn't happen. Each year they try to stay on top of the strains to produce an effective vaccine and they do.

So how do they do it if they don't know the source? Or do they track Mexican's for the flu before it comes up toward the north??

That's like coming up with a cure before the disease.

There are different strains and they include 2 or 3 in the vaccine depending on which they believe will be a problem that season/year. It's educated guesswork and the effectiveness varies depending on how close their best guess is to what ends up going around that year, but many of strains are related and even if they're a bit off, it is still effective.
The WHO (not the band! ) handles this selection process.

You know you could do some research and learn something rather than making stupid comments like that.

Yeah, that's what I read too..... and that's precisely why I don't bother getting them.

Did you just read that they try to predict or make "educated guesses" and have a knee-jerk reaction because you don't understand that?

You know in the same breath I also said, that they are still effective, just to varying degree.
