What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

  • Arthur Abraham's next fight set for June 27

IBF middleweight titlist Arthur Abraham will fight again on June 27 in Berlin, facing German sorta-contender Mahir Oral, according to Per Ake Persson.

The original idea was rumored to have Abraham fight in Germany on June 27, with middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik facing Sergio Mora on the same date in the States. The two, if they won, would then clash later in the year. Now that Pavlik-Mora has been delayed (at best) until September (at best), that would seem to be off. Honestly it might be worth it for Pavlik to just wait on Abraham and not fight until then. King Arthur doesn't seem to keen on staying at 160 for much longer, and I doubt they could convince him to keep delaying the fight until the spring of 2010 or whatever.

Oral (25-1-2, 10 KO) is your typical German Middleweight Opponent of today, a relative unknown on the global scale who has no truly notable wins and serves mostly to keep the titleholder -- Abraham or Sturm -- busy until the next time out. As good as Abraham is, he's only fought slightly better competition than Sturm has, and it's Sturm who takes the brunt of the shots in the media. Abraham is a hell of a good fighter, but being honest, he really hasn't fought a guy I thought was terribly dangerous to him since Khoren Gevor in 2007, or maybe even Edison Miranda in 2006. Since the Gevor fight, he's taken on Wayne Elxxxx, Elvin Ayala, Miranda in a catchweight rematch, Raul Marquez (a solid mandatory who earned his way), and most recently Lajuan Simon.

It is as always worth noting that the 160-pound division is quite shallow, which is why I feel like it's worth taking some shots at the matchmakers producing stuff like this fight, Sturm-Sato and the hopefully-canceled Pavlik-Mora, because the fights to be made are among the top three guys, period, and everyone past them is an afterthought, and that's being nice to Sturm in a lot of ways, though the biggest money fight at middleweight is Abraham-Sturm in Germany. On the global scene, the fight is Pavlik-Abraham and nothing else.

Big bout: ‘Armenian v Turk’ as Boxing King Arthur challenged by ‘fellow German’

A German-Armenian thumper will be in the tenth defense of his professional boxing title against a fellow German challenger of Turkish descent next week.

Sparring partners in their early days in professional boxing, International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (dubbed King Arthur) and Hamburg-based Mahir Oral (dubbed Lion) will have a showdown in Berlin’s Max-Schmeling-Halle on June 27 in what in fact will be a home fight for King Arthur.

“I have very good memories of this arena, particularly the fight with Khoren Gevor,” said Abraham, referring to the 11th round knockout against a fellow German-Armenian fighter in August 2007.

Abraham (29-0, 23 KOs) and Oral (25-1-2, 10 KOs) are both 29 years of age. They sparred together in Cologne in 2003-2004 still as commencing professional boxers and both say they have been on good terms ever since.

At the first press conference before the fight the two boxers spoke with respect about each other.

Abraham said he took the fight seriously: “We are both sportsmen and are training hard. We both do our own job – he does his and I do mine – but of course I would be lying if I didn’t say I want to win. Afterwards, things will revert to how they were before.”

And Oral said: “It was a great pleasure for me to hear that I was going to fight Arthur…We know each other from our early days as sparring partners, although now we have both matured. Arthur has become King and I have developed a lot too…”

Abraham’s trainer Ulli Wegner said he expected a great fight on June 27. “Mahir is a great lad. We will let what happens in the ring decide who is the best,” he said. “…Boxing fans have had to witness a few bad fights recently and that is why we want to put on a particularly good show.”

King Abraham dispatches the Turk in the 10th round with TKO.

        The Sports Network
Arthur Abraham retained his IBF middleweight crown with a 10th-round technical knockout of Mahir Oral at the Max-Schmeling Halle.

Both fighters battled pretty evenly until the fourth round, when Abraham put together a fierce combination that sent Oral to the floor for the first knockdown of the match.

Oral seemed to come back nicely, but Abraham put him on the ground for the second time in the sixth round. The Turk Oral kept battling, but he went down three total times in the 10th round, forcing the referee to call the match.

It was Abraham's 10th successful title defense.

Fight was pretty embarassing for Oral. I felt as if Abraham was toying with him the first 3 rounds. Oral was all over the place and was being treated like a ragdoll.

I know. But Sero, I think we all saw something that may never be seen again for a long time. Mahir bent in front of Arthur a couple of times and as if that wasn't enough, the round ended with TKO. That fight is probably being talked about wildly in Turkey right now as we speak. Anyways, the whole fight was embarrassing from start to finish. That's what happens when you mess with the KING!

Abraham vs Jermain Taylor in October in the Showtime Super 6 Classic should be a good bout. Taylor is 28-3-1 all time and coming off a last second loss to Carl Froch, who is also in the tournament.

Others in the Classic include Mikkel Kessler (Denmark, 41-1, 31 KOs), Andre Dirrell (American, 3-0, 2 KOs), & Andre Ward (American, 19-10, 12 KOs
