Sorry, let me further explain "my point". There is not such thing as a person of American ethnicity and because of this you can not compare the American team to that of the Armenian or any other country for that matter. In the Armenian (using Armenia as a example) team everyone is Armenian, which is why their win is a bit more legitiment.

For instance, let as suppose that Martirosyan won. Would he win as a American or a Armenian? He would win as a Armenian representing another nation because being American is only the equivalent of a nationality, but in no way is he actually "American". No one in the world is actually American unless they have feather sticking out of their heads. So, the entire idea of "representing" your country makes no sense when it comes to the U.S. team. It is the equivalent of buying athletes from around the world to represent your country.

On a side note. Is there some sort of Anatomical/medical/physiological reason why gymnasts are so short, and often dwarf-like?

Some of them do have weird bodies. I think it's because they are all so young, so they haven't matured yet? The one girl from the Russian team, Svetlana Khorkina though is so much taller than the rest.

"culturally, racially, ethnically diverse?" ... is it really that hard for you to say "generally superior"? It's time to start seeing beyond nations and races and start appreciating athletes for what they are: superior human specimens.

Though I really don't mind having the "national" categorization in the games because sort of like affirmative action, it allows the less advantaged countries to send their athletes as well. It kinda levels the playing field for the long run.

Seaphan, what is the Olympic games about? Yes, we all know it is a way to bring together the peoples of the world, but most importantly its about representing your country. In my opinion the U.S's domination of the medal count is in no way legitiment. Russian and Chinese domination is legitiment in that almost all their athletes are ethinically Russian and Chinese respectivily.

Lastly, outside of gymnastics, swimming, and track it is not very competitive. When is the last time Americans have a won a world cup? Most of their athletes are pros anyway, so, that makes a big difference as well.

I am against pro athletes going to these games. It's not about nationality, it's about the athletes. As far as the world cup, if Greece can win a european championship, anything is possible

As far as Armenia, what sports are they playing in the Olympics?

I have yet to see our country compete in any of the sports.

Are the sports coming up?

Did the sports pass on by without televising the Armenian team?

If any of you know of a Olympic competition or sport Armenia is competing in or going to compete in, please let all of us know.

Armenia has a good weightlifting and wresling program. However, most of their top athletes have been bought out by richer European countries. The top wrestler was bought by the Bulgarian team, but I am not sure.

Anyways, Armenia and Armenians in general are very competitive. We have had good sportsman throughout time, so, with a little bit more funding we can have a awesome line up.

I just hope we can get our soccer team up there and I think they just got a new coach, so, that could help.
