Maybe their first first ancestor was but them marrying into Armenian noble families they didn't stay Chans for long. Nationality was very different from what it is today, it seems that some people today don't understand this.

It does not.Originally posted by arakeretzig View Postspeaking of vartan mamikonian, does anyone know if his tomb still physically exists in the saint karapet monestary ruins in western armenia? i know the monestary is destroyed, but his tomb might not be...
The square with an X in it is the tomb (inside the large hall-like chamber).

Re: Vartan Mamikonian was Chinese ??
I doubt Mamikonian was Chinese. How did his family gain so much power in our kingdom if he was an odar? I think china is kind of like saying "ohh he's from god knows where.." or maybe he was Armenian living in China, but not Chinese. tho i got no evidence to back that up.
The "K" at the end just means its a place, its not like we are Changing anythings name. we are saying the regions name in our language is all.
BTW a bit off topic but: In pure Armenian "K" is roughly equal to "stan" why do we even use the Persian suffix in our language. Id be all for going back to our roots
it not only is our language, but it sounds cooler IMO, HAYK not hayastan, Stan makes us sound so... Persian and turkic and muslim.. its not even part of our language. i know personally i always preferred to call Armenia Hayk when thinking to myself.

..........did you even read? A suffix.Originally posted by diaukhi View Postk meaning?
More precisely, it's pronounced "q" and its purpose is to make a term plural. However, in this case, it plays the exact same role as the Georgian -eti, or Iranian -stan, or Hellenic -ia, etc. It was eventually dropped out of use in place for the Hellenic -ia and Iranian -stan, but it has still remained as an archaic element in some names (such as Javakhq, Tsopq, Aghvanq, etc.). This is irrelevant to your argument, though. You used the fact that Armenians add their language's suffix to place names to accuse Armenians of "changing names."

k meaning?Originally posted by SevSpitak View Post"-k" was/is an armenian suffix.
Hay-k (old Armenian) = Hay-(a)stan ("Armenia" in Armenian)
Aghvan-k (or Ałvan-k) = Alban-ia (don't forget how b and v are interchangeable)
Javakh-k (Armenian)= Javakh-eti (Georgian)= Zabakh-a (Urartian)
(t)sop-k (Armenian)= Soph-ene (Hellenic)
Vir-k (old Armenian)= Vr-(a)stan ("Georgia" in Armenian, if I'm not mistaken about this one)
It's like:
Atropat-ene (Hellenic)= Aturpat-akan (Iranic)
Cordu-ene/Kordu-ene/Gordy-ene (Hellenic)= Kurdi-stan (Iranic)
Cyrpr-us (Latin)= Kipr-os (Hellenic)
Aegypt-us (Latin)= Aígypt-os (Hellenic) = Yegipt-os (Helleno-Armenian)
Armen-ia (Greek)= Ermen-(i)stan (Irano-Turkic)
If you think accusing Armenians of changing names in this way (using their language's suffix for place names) is giving your arguments credence, it shows how 'primitive' your knowledge on these topics is.
