  • Why is Armenia called Hayastan?

Isn't Hayastan a Turko-Arabic-Islamic influence? I mean, look at Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan. Why do we have the "stan" ending?

The proper name is and always has been Hayq/Hayk. The "istan/stan" suffix is Persian for "land".

But what has made it become officialdom? Get rid of it.

Why? Sometimes you guys can't appreciate a thing for that its worth. Hayastan is what it will always be to me. Hell, I'd rather it be Hayastan rather then Armenia. I didn't even know they called it Armenia till a moved abroad

I am talking about in Armenian. There are other names we refer with, as was mentioned, such as Hayk, or Hayrenik.

No. It's Indo-European. Get over it.

A Persian suffix doesn't seem to hinder the attitudes and causes in which Armenians engage in. It's not like it makes us associate with other "...stans" either.

I know that, but why resort to that to begin with? There is a proper name as already indicated.

alright, then we'll keep the proper name in mind, that's what counts.
