Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Yeah, Armanen you are right. He was already big in late 1990s in terms of a renowned "magnate." Of course he has gotten "bigger" in terms of his "assets" in recent years. You are right, he has done quite a lot in terms of sports and other charities. Some, with more cynical outlook, question this as simply a "moral cover" and a publicity stunt, rather than view it as genuine. Those in the immediate circles, like his own Prosperous Armenia party, obviously adore him as he has given them jobs and such means. However, Armenia's Achilles heel remains the fact that our industry has been ravished in the 1990s, what was left of heavy industry was pretty much sold to Russian firms, and Armenia has increasingly become an "importer" rather than a "producer/exporter."

My hope is we can pick up on IT and High Tech in general, we have some very talented people. They need to stay and work in Armenia instead of being lured to places like Silicon Valley. Interesting article below on the upcoming ArmTech Congress '09 in San Jose, Calif.

      Armenia's High Tech:
A Silk Road of a New Kind

      __________________________________________________ _______________

      By Appo Jabarian

During the last decade, Armenia has achieved impressive progress in the high tech industry. It was thanks to its people's tech-savvy character and spirit for renovation, and its worldwide network of active co-operation with Diaspora Armenian high tech specialists and executives.

As a result of collective hard work, Armenia has become the center of considerable attention by major entities ranging from foreign government agencies to high tech industry leaders on software development and information technology-related achievements.

According to several experts, Armenian Computer Programmers have already obtained high reputation and credibility in USA Information Technology market. More then 60% of Armenia's software companies export their products, mainly to the United States, Russia, France, Germany, Holland and several other countries.

In the last few years, one of the main engines that propelled Armenia into its current impressive international standing in the world high tech community has been the ArmTech Congress, and the dedicated people behind that fine organization.

After all these years, where does Armenia stand now and how is Armenia ranked from the high-tech perspective? What is ArmTech Congress and what are its objectives? Tony Moroyan immediately underlines that Armenia "is not in a position to compete with the world in natural resources or other sectors like manufacturing, etc." But "when you look at what we have been able to achieve in these few years in high tech is quite impressive. This includes banking, microelectronics design automation, internet, enterprise software, and other high tech industries like biomed and rigorous activities and interest in renewable energy, etc." Moroyan is the Co-Founder and Chairman of ArmTech Congress; the CEO and Chairman of Impeva Labs, Inc. in Silicon Valley; and the Chairman of ViaShpere Ventures, Inc.

Moroyan adds: "In some domains, we can rank Armenia now in parallel with India and USA's Silicon Valley. Such an example is EDA (electronic design automation - software and tools that are used to design semiconductors); EDA is used to design all microelectronics chips that are used in all products that include electronics, e.g., cell-phones, appliances, computers, solar energy systems, control systems that are used in all industries from automotive to nuclear power plants, avionics, etc. Armenian high tech professionals have the inquisitive mind and background in math, physics and computer science to rise to the challenge."

The ArmTech Congress is headquartered in Silicon Valley as a Global High Tech Industry Conference which was founded by High Tech Industry and business professionals to foster professional growth in the worldwide Armenian high tech community, and to promote the growth of Armenia's rapidly rising high tech industry.

The literature released by ArmTech Congress '09 informs that ArmTech Congress is affiliated with Armenian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC). The organization welcomes liaisons with other entities that are similarly aligned and has no political affiliations.

Building on the success of ArmTech '07 and ArmTech '08, the development of recurring international high tech industry and business conferences is the current focus of the organization. ArmTech's goals include: Provide networking and community resources for Armenian high tech professionals; showcase the global contributions of Armenian professionals in high tech and allied fields; attract global participation by individuals and entities that can benefit from involvement with the Armenian high tech community; promote opportunities to do business, recruit and invest in Armenian high tech; highlight the rise of Armenia's strategic high tech industry; and promote international interactions and investments for further growth.

ArmTech Congress '09 deserves our unrelenting support because it is and will continue to be an important - if not the most important - engine for further growth and development of Armenia's High Tech as a contemporary economic "Silk Road" of a new kind.

Interestingly enough, Armenian Development Agency, says it handles investments with the firms that are going to be present at the expo. There will be both corporate and private investors present during the expo to learn how they can invest.

General Activity: Assisting investors in setting up their business in Armenia, performing a liaison role with the Government, providing information on investment opportunities in the country, as well as investment related regulations and laws.

I am sure you can also invest directly into Armenian IT firms, via ADA or personally in Yerevan.

Well there are a few Russian business under Armenian control but that is mostly by Russian-Armenians. The big industries are all almost state-owned in Russia so I don't think anyone will be buying those, at least not non Russians. Although, there is talk within the Kremlin of privatizing the state-owned firms which are not profitable for the government. Part of the aim of doing this is the ease the burden on the state coffers another is to attract badly needed foreign capital to Russia.

Actually, during the last press briefing, the Prosperous Armenia party spokeswoman said that if Gagik Tsarukyan was given the chance he would buy from Turkey all of Western Armenia.

I don't doubt that somewhere there is an Armenian in him, I just hope it comes out more.
