In Azerbaijan, the cause of Dr. Goebbels is everlasting

Apparently, not only the media but also the political promoters of Azerbaijan headed personally by President Ilham Aliyev, the overking of that country, made up their minds to follow both the fascist ideology of national hatred and the Nazi methods of propaganda founded by the notorious minister of Third Reich. One of the favorite sayings of Nazi Germany’s Propaganda Minister was the following: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

One of the absurd theories more and more actively boosted in the Azerbaijani society is the assertion that the ancient city of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, founded in 782 BC has been an Azerbaijani town!!! It looks like the supreme ruler of Azerbaijan decided to expand the boundaries of this lie beyond his country’s borders. According to the Azerbaijani media, when delivering a lecture at Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 7th he, having no scruples about lying, illuminated, or rather, took the gracious Estonians aback by saying that “Armenians have already created their state on Azerbaijani lands. No other Armenian state can be founded on our lands”. Further on, he talked as big as he started: “Armenians have already self-determined. They have their Armenian state, although it had been created on historical Azerbaijani lands. Everyone knows it. The next day after Azerbaijan declared its independence in 1918, Azerbaijani Democratic Republic made a decision to transfer the city of Irevan to Armenia as their capital. Irevan was a city of Irevani Khanate populated by Azerbaijani people. As to history, that’s how it used to be”. "As to history, that’s how it used to be..."

One can scarcely understand what is dominating in this statement – demagogy or ignorance. I believe neither the former nor the latter - it is just on-target propaganda of lies aimed at fraudulent misrepresentation of history plus self-delusion. The fact, however, is that this exact misinformation is becoming more and more frequent and sophisticated. Indeed, harping on the same falsification will hopefully lead people to believe it. There is no information about the Estonian Ministry’s staff’s reaction to their high-rank guest’s insinuations. We can only hope they know the truth and will not take that speech for granted.

So, what is the truth? I am not going to deliver another lecture about the four-thousand year history of Armenians on their aboriginal lands but several interesting and important facts are worth to be mentioned to evidence the autochthony of Armenians on the huge geographic area officially called Armenian Plateau, or Armenian Highland, in the world. Here’s Proof Number One. Unfortunately for the Azerbaijani promoters, at least part of their country is situated on that territory that carries this internationally adopted place name. The core of that plateau is Armenia itself famous for another internationally adopted scientific term – armeniaca, or just apricot, and here’s Proof Number Two. No doubt that these names have been given as a tribute to the contribution of one of the most ancient nations to the world scholarship and culture. One can imagine the nervous irritation that seizes Aliyev and other Azeri agitators every time they at least think about this.

Back to history, there is no doubt that such an administrative unit as Yerevan Khanate was founded and that it was populated by Azerbaijani Turkomen. By the way, no one would use the term Azerbaijani – those people were just Turks. The truth is, though, that the Khanate was established by the Persian Shah Abbas the First after his invasion into the Armenian lands in 1604. Consequently, at the very outset of his rule tens of thousands native Armenians, including Yerevanites, were deported to Persia; this resulted in the majority of the Muslim population of then Yerevan. Even under these conditions, the Shah did not dare change the name of the city that sounded and sounds now, too, as the regular Armenian word yerevan that means an open, visible, ‘seen’ place, which, by the way is in keeping with the Urartian name of my native city Erebuni, and that is very easy to see, pronounce, and hear even for a non-linguist. Here is Proof Number Three of Armenians’ autochthony on the Armenian Plateau.

Regarding the proper name Azerbaijan / Azerbaijani, I would recommend that Mr. Aliyev and all those interested take a look at the maps of ancient or medieval times – the ones published long ago, not the ones posted on Internet because they may be easily faked by anybody. One of my university colleagues collects such maps. I did not spare my time and studied them thoroughly. So did I with the collection of ancient maps at our university. All of them present the geographic region of the Armenian Plateau as ARMENIA, sometimes syllabalizing this word so that it could cover as much space as possible. No mention of the root Azerbaijan / Azerbaijani at all! Here is Proof Number Four of the authenticity of the lands on which the current state of Armenia with its capital Yerevan were founded. If Mr. Aliyev talks about facts everyone is aware of, he must know that his nation’s official name had been Caucasian Tartars over the course of the world history before 1918. No one has ever heard of Azerbaijanis inhabiting the area to the East of Armenia, nor have they heard of the country named “Azerbaijan” there.

The list of evidences in favor of Armenian lands’ authenticity can be endless. It is advisable to confront the Goebbelslike propaganda by the presentation of undeniable truth and facts that refute the falsifications of history since the followers of the Reich Minister are prone to “tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it”. On the off-chance, “people will eventually come to believe it”. This is becoming the top principle of the Azerbaijani agitprop.

Turkey Cannot Speak with Pre-conditions to Armenia: Sargsyan
      21:25 • 12.04.10

Armenia’s President Sezh Sargsyan visited Woodrow Wilson’s tomb in the Washington National Cathedral. The President placed a wreath on the tomb.

Afterwards Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with American-Armenians elaborating on his meeting with the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Our correspondent in Washing ton says that Sargsyan said he had told Erdogan that Armenia has not changed its approach over the Armenia-Turkey normalization, that Turkey cannot speak with Armenia with pre-conditions, and that Armenia will never allow anyone to question the fact of Genocide.

"This morning I met with Turkish Prime Minister. Our approach has been and remains very clear. Turkey cannot speak with pre-conditions to Armenia. We will not simply allow that. We cannot allow the fact of Armenian Genocide be a subject to examination or pretend that Turkey can play a positive role in the Karabakh conflict settlement process. Any new foreign policy line is subject to trial because we are passing through an unxxxxxled path. We are sure that Armenia will pass this way with honor too," said Sargsyan.

Earlier a meeting took place between Serzh Sargsyan and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the framework of the World Nuclear Security Summit. There were reports that the main issue on the agenda would be the Armenia-Turkey normalization and the ratification of Armenia-Turkey Protocols.

Besides Serzh Sargsyan Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan, President’s Deputy Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan were participating in the meeting.

From the Turkish side together with Erdogan Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Turkey’s Deputy Undersecretary
Feridun Sinirlioglu participated in the meeting that took place in a room behind transparent windows in the background of the World Nuclear Security Summit wallpaper.

Edward Nalbandian: Azerbaijani media should be treated with less confidence
          April 14, 2010 - 19:58 AMT 14:58 GMT
PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that the official refutation of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, according to which Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had not given an interview to APA Azerbaijani agency, once again proves that Azerbaijani media should be treated with less confidence. “I talked to the Turkish Foreign Minister during a reception hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in honor of Foreign Ministers participating in the Nuclear Security Summit. He refuted the report, saying that he had not given an interview,” Mr. Nalbandian told a briefing in Washington, DC.

Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin stated that APA Azerbaijani agency attributed to the Turkish Foreign Ministry the remarks, which Ahmet Davutoglu could not pronounce, being Turkey’s Foreign Minister. On April 13 APA reported that Davutoglu said in an interview with the agency that the removal of Azerbaijan from the processes at South Caucasus is unacceptable for Turkey and that issues on liberation of Azerbaijani territories are basic paragraphs of Zurich Protocols.

Vay merra!! I would have expected such things even from Erdogan, but from Aliyev...come on!!!
            -----------------------------------------------------------

Message from Baku: Azeri President comments on Armenian-Turkish relations

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made on Wednesday in Baku an unprecedented announcement, saying that “opening of the Armenian-Turkish border is the business of the two countries and no one should interfere in the process.”

“Why is the international community trying to save Armenia, why is it trying to open the Armenian-Turkish border to provide Armenia with open air to breathe?” asked Aliyev during the session of the Council of Ministers of Azerbaijan, being broadcast on the state TV channel of Azerbaijan.

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the president of Azerbaijan said that the international community “displays indifference towards the fact of the occupation of Azeri territories by Armenia.”

“How can we assess the current situation if our interests are ignored, if they shut their eyes to the occupation of our territories? Instead, huge efforts are made to take the aggressor country out of the hard economic situation,” Aliyev said.

This position, since the ‘soccer diplomacy’ in 2008, is unprecedented, both from the Turkish and Azeri sides, which always linked the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations and the opening of the border with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

According to Armenian-based analysts, such a ‘rational’ statement shows that “Azerbaijan understands that its steps taken against the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations have no prospect.”

“Recently quite serious messages were sent to Azerbaijan by both the United States and European countries, making it understand that they are not going to tolerate the blackmail of Azerbaijan,” Stepan Safaryan, head of the opposition Heritage party’s parliamentary faction, told ArmeniaNow. “The blackmail policy of Azerbaijan reached its climax when it started ruining the US policy over the Armenian-Turkish normalization.”

According to Safaryan, the publication of a large article on Aliyev’s huge property in The Washington Post (March 8) was quite a serious step. Another critical message was the fact that Azerbaijan has not been invited to participate in the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington DC.

“These steps obviously stressed that the United States is angry; and Azerbaijan understands quite well that nothing is accidental, and it [Azerbaijan] must understand that its game has no prospect,” Safaryan explains.

While Aliyev is modifying his position, Turkey continues to link Armenian-Turkish relations with the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The border was closed in 1993 when the Azeri lands were occupied. Now we want to correct it,” stated Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Ankara airport after returning from Washington on Wednesday, suggesting that [Armenians] “return the Aghdam and Fizuli districts”, in return to which, they [Turkey] will be ready to open the Armenian-Turkish border.

Armenia must state its position, Azeri leader says
              12:00 / 04/15/2010

The sides have entered a crucial stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated at a cabinet meeting on the socio-economic development in the 1st quarter of 2010.

“The conflict can only be settled within international law. The four resolutions of the U.S. Security Council must be honored, the occupation forces must be withdrawn from the occupied territories, Azerbaijani citizens must return to all the territories, including Nagorno-Karabakh, whereafter Nagorno-Karabakh’s status must be determined. This status is possible only within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Azerbaijan will never agree to any other status. No state will recognize Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence without our consent,” Aliyev said.

According to him, Azerbaijan’s position has from the outset been that the highest autonomy status can be granted to Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azeri leader clamed that Azerbaijan has never implemented an ethnic cleansing policy nor does it plan to.

“If the Armenian side accepts the proposals reflecting the norms of international law, the Azerbaijani community must live with the Armenian community in Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijanis there will, on the one hand, ensure historical justice and, on the other hand, meets international law,” Aliyev said.

According to him, Armenia has to state its position. “We are at the stage when we have to respond to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ proposal,” the Azeri leader said.

He reminded the attendees that Azerbaijan officially accepted the proposal based on the revised Madrid Principles. “Very few points arouse our concern in this proposal. The proposal should, with a few exceptions, be taken as a basis for a peaceful agreement,” the Azeri leader said.

If Armenia rejects the proposals, negotiations will be senseless. “If we see there is no hope, the negotiations must be suspended, and the process will enter a new stage. It is yet too early to say what kind of stage it is, but, in any case, we are ready for any scenario,” Aliyev said. He expressed hope that Armenia will accept the proposal, “in which case we will conduct more active peace talks, and they may enter a new, positive stage.”

As regard the Armenian-Turkish process, the Azeri leader stated it is the two nations’ business and “no state should interfere – neither our state nor others.”

“Let the two states settle their relations. Of course, in settling their relations they will consider the ongoing regional processes, history and historical relations,” Aliyev said.

                Azeris missing Levon-Ter-Petrosyan

The Armenian president speaking in Washington Monday has again taken an unconstructive stance on the normalization of relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Which are the prospects of solution of the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani problems in this respect?

Considering current unconstructive stance of the Sargsyan administration, the prospects for peaceful solution of the conflict are close to none and will keep fading away. Sargsyan’s logic can only be interpreted as follows:

To Turkey: “You have to recognize what we call “genocide”, re-write your history, pay retributions, cede Turkish territory of what we call “Western Armenia” and to Azerbaijan: “We have occupied Karabakh and will not withdraw from your lands. The only time we will pull out from some of the regions outside of former NKAO, is after you will officially recognize our self-proclaimed entity “NKR”. With all that in mind, you have to open the borders, re-establish economic links, and build railroads, pipelines so that we, Armenians live better than you.”

This attitude will obviously lead to no results and is going to further contain Armenia as a loner of the neighborhood. The only time any compromise is possible is when both or, at least, one of either Russia or US exerts considerable pressure on Armenia and disengages it from its Diaspora, so that the ordinary citizens of Armenia who live in poor conditions could also live prosperous and peaceful lives as those Armenians in California, Michigan and New York.

They say it would have been easier to come to an agreement on Karabakh with Armenia had it not been for the radically inclined Armenian diaspora. What do you think should be taken to neutralize the destructive influence of the Armenian lobby on Armenia in order to attain peace in the region?

It is true that Armenian Diaspora has an immediate supervision over many processes taking place in Armenia, starting from penetration of its political system down to its basic economic entities. In fact, under Levon Ter-Petrossyan, Armenia was more willing to compromise and come to peaceful arrangements with Azerbaijan than at any given time when Kocharyan and Sargsyan were in office. Perhaps, this was one of the reasons why a radical ideologist organization like Dashnaktsuituin was outlawed by Ter-Petrossyan due to its constant intrusion of internal affairs of Republic of Armenia. It is very simple to understand: Armenians in Diaspora who are fuelled by radical Armenian ideology and live better lives have an easy dictate from half way across the ocean. Travelling and visiting Armenia and occupied Karabakh during vacation season does not give the ordinary Diaspora Armenian an advantage in seeing how things really go in the republic all year long.

Official Beijing supports solution of Karabakh conflicts within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

China condemns the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

According to the news service for Azerbaijan’s Milli Medjlis, the statement came from Ley Mingchiu, deputy chairman of the China-Azerbaijan group of friendship of the Chinese parliament, at the meeting with members of the Committee on international relations and interparliamentary ties of the Azerbaijani parliament.

He also appreciated the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan and achieved success. He said China attaches special importance to development of comprehensive relations and cooperation with regional leader, Azerbaijan.

Gultekin Hajibeyli, deputy chairman of the Milli Medjlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties, voiced condolence over numerous victims in the result of the earthquake in Jinquai.

The Azerbaijani parliamentarian has familiarized the Chinese counterpart with the legislative basis, international ties of Milli Medjlis and reforms conducted in the country. According to Hajibeyli, Azerbaijan maintain wide relations in the political, economic and cultural spheres with most countries of the world, including with China with which relations are growing. The parliamentarian stressed existence of great potential for development of bilateral cooperation between our countries.

Touching upon the Karabakh conflict, Hajibeyli said this unsettled problem creates significant hindrances for the more successful economic development of Azerbaijan.

She said Armenia continues ignoring resolutions adopted within the framework of different international organizations, regarding the need for unconditional withdrawal from the occupied Azerbaijani lands.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual concern.
