Looks like Iran is hitting back at Azerbaijan by releasing articles such as this one, trying to stir sh!t up in the country. Tut-tut-tut IRAN? )))

When actually it is those in Iran who are probably next in line for the toppling. Or at the very least they are some distance in front of those in Azerbaijan.

Meh, I think neither are in line for a revolution. The opposition for both is simply too fractured or just not strong enough to topple their governments. What both are potentially in line for though are big demonstration clampdowns with lots of deaths. Iran's government has been good to Armenia so from an Armenian's perspective, I hope it clings to power.

What interests me is that there is hostility between Azerbaijan and Iran.

PanARMENIAN.Net - An Azerbaijani youth activist involved in organizing an antigovernment campaign on the Internet has been ordered detained for one month after being questioned about his Facebook activity.

Seadet Seyidli, a lawyer for Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, that a court in the city of Ganja made the ruling today. He said Hajiyev stated in court he was tortured in police custody.

Fellow youth activist Gunel Yusifli says Hajiyev met his friends earlier in the day in Ganja. Hajiyev told them he was summoned by local police in the morning and was questioned about the views he had posted on Facebook. Yusifli said Hajiyev contacted her this afternoon saying he was again called to the police.

Hajiyev, 29, a Harvard graduate and a former parliament candidate, is one of the organizers of the March 11 Facebook campaign calling for a day of protest against the government. Hajiyev posted on his Facebook page the following appeal to police on behalf of "a group of Azerbaijani youth:"

"We learned from the developments in the Arab world that when people demand freedom, they achieve it. We call on you to stand on the right side of history, not to resort to force against your own citizens, to build a fair, happy, and free society in Azerbaijan together with ordinary people."

Hajiyev was detained earlier this year and charged with evading military service. He and other activists say the criminal case against him is politically motivated, RFE/RL reports.

Earlier, Yeni Musavat newspaper reported that Azerbaijani forces are gathering in Baku, which is explained by the local authorities’ serious concern over the possibility of riots. Besides, Baku servicemen are not allowed leaves of absence. The authorities have been alarmed with the creation of a Facebook group of March 11, Great National Day. The message posted on the webpage urges Baku residents to participate in protest rally planned for March 11. The group already list over 20 000 users. Musavat oppositional party rally has been scheduled for March 12 in Baku. In the Azerbaijani capital, the authorities’ actions are construed as preparations for suppressing the riots. Although some experts believe the concerns to be groundless, the ongoing events prove that Azerbaijan is getting ready for serious events.

Iran's government has been good to Armenia so from an Armenian's perspective, I hope it clings to power.

What interests me is that there is hostility between Azerbaijan and Iran.

I believe a more secular Iran will have much closer relations with us.

Not a guarantee. More secular Iran could also mean better relations with Azerbaijan, both would be secular Shi'a countries. Secular Iran = possibly better relations with Israel which also guarantees better Azeri relations since a major constraint their relations have is Israel teaming with the Azerbaboons.

What we do have a guarantee for now though is that Islamic Republic of Iran is good to us. Calling for a secular Iran is a useless and possibly costly gamble.

Azerbaijani authorities use a certain technique i've noticed over the years when they jail random activists. They plant drugs on them and charge them for illegal drug possession so i've heard opposition members now sewing their pockets shut to evade the technique LOL.

reports eye witnesses have reported the mysterious aid close to the Supreme Leader, known as Vahid, to have been personally involved and led the kidnap of Karroubi and his wife, Fatemeh.

Vahid Haghanian, more commonly known simply as Vahid, is the deputy executive of the Supreme Leader's office. He has become known as an influential figure whose duties include co-ordination of various military, political and security units as well as delivering the Supreme Leader's messages. He is said to be the Supreme Leader's right hand man and yet very little is known about him. None of the better known people around the Supreme Leader have ever commented or mentioned anything about him in their memoires.

First pictures of Vahid ever seen in public were during Ahmadienjad's inauguration, where he was seen handing the presidency edict to the Supreme Leader, a task normally carried out by either the former president or the head of the Assembly of Experts.

Arrested on the eve of Ganja youth activist and blogger Bakhtiyar Hajiyev is charged under Article 321.1 (evasion of military conscription) of the Criminal Code. The evening of March 4 Ganja Nizami district court chose to regard Hajiyev security measure - arrest for a period of 1 month, said the news agency Turan, his lawyer Elchin Namazov.

According to counsel, the decision is motivated by the fact that Hajiyev allegedly violated previous measure - finding "under police control." However, the accusation is unjustified, since Hajiyev regularly celebrated in the local police and anywhere from Ganja was not going away. However, in the middle of February Hajiyev traveled to Baku, but pre-notified the police.

Hajiyev has repeatedly requested to provide him with opportunities to perform alternative service, as guaranteed by the Constitution. However, his appeals were ignored. The lawyer said that the arrest would be appealed. Namazov said that his client is being persecuted for political activity.

With regard to physical pressure and torture, which Hajiyev was subjected to arrest, and in the courtroom, the lawyer said he had heard about it from relatives and human rights defenders. From the very Hajiyev he had not yet met, and if the arrested person will confirm the above, then the lawyer will take the appropriate steps.

In recent days, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev through Facebook encourages young people to civic engagement in connection with the alleged protests March 11 and 12, and the police - not to oppose it. Human rights defender Intigam Aliyev believes that the case Hajiyev is part antimolodezhnoy policy of the Azerbaijani authorities.

According to the site, in Azerbaijan the number of users «Facebook» in Azerbaijan at the age of 18-34 years is 325 thousand people, 63% of whom are male, and 37% - women.
