Armenia to produce pilotless aircraft



Armenia intends to design a pilotless aircraft, a high ranking official in aviation informed off-record. According to him, the program launch on design of pilotless aircrafts in Armenia will be of mjor significance to the country. “This can be a very critical achievement for Armenia, meanwhile solving numerous problems in security maintenance,” the source said. He added that the aircrafts are widely used for intelligence and other purposes. Azerbaijan buys this technique from Israel and if Armenia starts to produce them, it will hold an advantage over its neighbor. The source reckons that such aircrafts are advantegous to small countries like Armenia for their affordability.

This is excellent news.

This is an area which is a must in modern warfare, may also have civilian application.
Forestry, poaching surveillance etc.

One thing intrigues me.
It says "Armenia intends to design".
This looks like at least a flying prototype, well ahead of "intention to design".

Armenia has established a tradition of getting on with things quietly.
I wonder what is the purpose of this announcement if we do not have an operational product.

All the same good decision and good luck with it.

By units of air equipment Armenia is behind its neighbors, an aviation expert told NEWS.am Innovations off-record.

According to him, despite this fact Armenia has skilled experts for designing of combat aviation tactics, which in this case is more important, as if needed the available combat material will be used purposefully and effectively to the uttermost. The country already has such experience gained during the war in Karabakh.

“Numerical superiority in aviation equipment to our neighbors is minor; besides the decisive factors in battle actions can be proficiency level and tactical options by developers,” the expert deems. He also emphasized that presently the air offensive focuses not on aircrafts development, but missilery, which is more afforble.

I disagree. Don’t we have enough freaking missiles for a solid air defense? It is mistake to disregard building a good air superiority force.........very disappointing comment to me from a “skilled experts for designing of combat aviation tactics”.

BTW, building a UAV won't be as a problem as getting a something like that skyball (the turret) in the picture. That will not be easy to built unless we can buy it or improvise with cameras.

Armenian Military Downplays Reservist Call-Up

The Armenian military on Monday confirmed an ongoing nationwide call-up of reservists but insisted that it does not signify a growing likelihood of renewed war with Azerbaijan.

Colonel Seyran Shahsuvarian, the spokesman for the Armenian Defense Ministry, told RFE/RL that men across Armenia aged up to 50 are being summoned by military commissariats to take part in military exercises. He said they spend up to a week in military camps refreshing and improving their combat skills.

Shahsvuvarian downplayed the significance of such drills, saying that the Armenian Armed Forces have always called up reservists to verify their availability and make sure that “every duty-bound Armenian man knows his place and function in the military” in case of a large-scale armed conflict.

The latest call-up comes amid rumors, stoked by some media, that the army has been put on high alert in anticipation of an Azerbaijani offensive. The Defense Ministry has categorically denied those reports.

A senior Nagorno-Karabakh security official, Colonel Levon Chalian, on Monday dismissed as a “provocation” pro-opposition media claims that the authorities in Stepanakert have banned local male residents from leaving the territory. “We are performing our duties as usual,” he told RFE/RL’s Armenian service. “There are no restrictive instructions.”

Shahsuvarian, for his part, insisted that recent deadly skirmishes on the main Armenian-Azerbaijani frontline east of Karabakh and Armenia’s heavily fortified border with Azerbaijan do not indicate an overall weakening of the ceasefire regime or an increased likelihood of another war.

“We have the same stable situation that has existed during all these years,” he said. “It would be wrong to say that such incidents have increased or that something has changed on the frontline.” Chances of an all-out Armenian-Azerbaijani war are minimal at the moment, he added.

Shahsuvarian stressed at the same time that the Armenian military is taking Azerbaijani threats to solve the Karabakh conflict by force seriously. “We have been reinforcing our frontline fortifications,” he said. “We now have several lines of defense there. We are raising soldiers’ spirits, combat-readiness and so on.

“We also keep the military hardware at the ready. It’s almost impossible today to find a single faulty unit of hardware at any military base.”

Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian likewise warned Azerbaijan recently against attempting to win back Nagorno-Karabakh by force, saying that Armenian troops have significantly beefed up defense fortifications around the disputed territory and are prepared for another war.

Competition of military robots to be held in Armenia

A competition of military robots will for the first time be held in Armenia, Mariam Nahapetyan, Manager of the Armenian Robots Open Competition /ArmRobotics, told NEWS.am.

She said that military robots in Armenia have to perform the simplest tasks. "During the first competition mine detector robots will be constructed. The context will also be held in Nagorno-Karabakh on May 9, on the occasion of the Shushi victory.

Nahapetyan pointed out that the up-to-date technologies will be applied in the Armenian defense system.

The Armenian Robots Open Competition was first held in 2008 on the initiative of the Union of Information Technologies Enterprises.
