CSTO Secretary-General visits Armenian-Azerbaijani state border zone for the first time
19:39, 7 October, 2014
YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS: Accompanied by Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan and First Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan, Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolay Bordyuzha visited today the military bases, familiarized with the daily life of the Armenian soldiers who implement military duty at southwestern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border. Nikolay Bordyuzha has arrived in Armenia on a working visit.
In a briefing with mass media representatives, Nikolay Bordyuzha referred to the situation at the borderline. He noted that the general situation is satisfying and the goal of his visit is to make a corresponding report on the operative situation at the contact line.
This was Nikolay Bordyuzha s first visit to the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border zone. Welcoming this step, Seyran Ohanyan noted that similar visits one more time show that CSTO is interested in the situation of the CSTO member states. Defense Minister of Armenia stressed that these visits enable to form general views on the situation for determining the further steps.
YEREVAN. – Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan on Wednesday received Hakob Injighulyan and his family members.
The minister thanked Injighulyan—the soldier who was held captive in Azerbaijan for more than a year, subsequently transferred to a third country, and who ultimately returned to Armenia on October 2, 2014—for his perseverance and patriotic demeanor.
The military serviceman, for his part, gave details on the inhuman treatment and the psychological and physical pressure he had been subjected to during Azerbaijani captivity.
In turn, the defense minister expressed the hope that Injighulyan will shake off, as quickly as possible, the effects of stress during his nightmarish days in Azerbaijan. He added that these actions are evidence to the fact that the Azerbaijani authorities have developed a specific policy of sending captured soldiers to a third country after subjecting them to psychological pressures, torture, and death threats.
At the end of the talk, Seyran Ohanyan expressed satisfaction that even after such an ordeal, Injighulyan still has expressed a wish to continue his military service.
The defense minister ordered to consider, and based on the results of Hakob Injighulyan’s medical examination, the matter of his future military service, but underscored the need for Injighulyan to get an education.
The repatriated soldier gave details on the inhuman treatment and the psychological and physical pressure he had been subjected to during Azerbaijani captivity…
A decision has been reached in connection with the military service of Hakob Injighulyan.
Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that, after studying Injighulyan’s health records, the professional committee decided that he is subject to military service and he will continue his service in the Armenian Armed Forces.
We also have learned, however, that there are still pending legal matters with respect to harassment against Injighulyan in Azerbaijan, and that he will resume his military service once these matters are cleared.
On the night of August 8, 2013, Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulyan (born in 1991) had gotten lost and found himself in the territory under the control of Azerbaijan. He was taken to the Azerbaijani capital city Baku the next day. The ICRC was able to first meet with the Armenian prisoner of war on August 20. In addition, Injighulyan was made to wear Azerbaijani military uniform and give several “interviews.”
The soldier was held captive in Azerbaijan for more than a year, subsequently transferred to a third country, and he ultimately returned to Armenia on October 2, 2014.
The former captive had told reporters that the Azerbaijanis had threatened to shoot him if he expressed a wish to return to his homeland.
Hakob Injighulyan also had stated that he plans to carry out the remaining nine months of his military service in the Armenian Armed Forces.
Glad he is home, and willing to continue his service...Lets hope he doesnt get any bright ideas on the front. Wouldn't want him starting a firefight and f**** over his entire unit.
Armenian colony of Glendale will conquer all of California!
