I think it could be very dangerous for Armenia, because Azergayjan hasn't started a war with Armenia because we can hit all the oil pipelines with our ballistic missiles, but if I am not wrong, this S-300 system can hit and destroy these ballistic missiles (right ZORAVAR?) which means they can safeguard, to some extent, their income bloodline.

Assuming this is true, even though Russia might put S-300 in Azerbaijan against any potential cruise or Tactical ballistic missiles from Iran, with the range and low altitude capabilities of the S-300, just the fact that it is there and whoever is on the trigger, it is a danger to our SU-25s and even the Mil Mi-24s, especially if there are plans to take out the Azeri targets (runways) with our SU-25s deep in enemy territory in case of war.
This will make a lot of Armenian pilots nervous.

That could be, but what about long-range strategic targets as airports and radar stations, or cities deep into Azerbaijani territories (where the scuds and others missiles could be useful)?

Nevertheless, this could tip the military balance...

Moscow and Yerevan will make changes to the agreement on Russian military base in the Armenian
Moscow. July 30. INTERFAX.RU - Russia and Armenia signed a protocol, which amends the treaty on Russian military base in Armenia. Government decision on the submission of the president of Russia offers to sign the protocol is placed in a database of normative acts of the Cabinet.


In accordance with the draft protocol to the Treaty on the base will be changed according to which "a Russian military base in Armenian territory but to exercise the functions to protect Russia's interests provides, together with the armed forces of Armenia, the security of this republic." To achieve these objectives, Russia "provides assistance in providing Armenia with modern weaponry and a compatible, military (special) equipment," says the draft protocol.


According to the document, "the use of military forces of the Russian military base is based on mutual agreement of the parties to the Treaty on Collective Security of 15 May 1992, the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and mutual assistance between Russia and Armenia on August 29, 1997, and in accordance with the laws of the parties . In addition, the draft protocol proposed article 26 of the Treaty shall read as follows: "The contract is valid for 49 years and is automatically renewed for subsequent periods of five years, unless either party notifies in writing not less than six months prior to the expiration of the term of the contract the other party of intention to terminate it.

6 Dead in Firefight at Karabakh Army Post

Information sketchy as to what happened; official sources tight-lipped

As a result of an incident involving the discharge of firearms on July 26, at a military unit in the Martuni district of the NKR under the command of Colonel Felix Baghdasaryan, six people were killed according to circulating reports.

Hetq has been able to comprise the following list of those killed – Robert Hovhannisyan (Vanadzor), Andranik Sargsyan (20 years-old from Yerevan), Vardges Tadavosyan ( a 28 year-old officer with three children).

Artur Sakounts, who heads the Vanadzor branch of the Helsinki Association, told lragir.am that the incident began when a lieutenant and a sergeant arrived at the post and found a soldier asleep while on duty. They woke him up and began to berate him with insults.

At that point, another soldier at the post opened fire on the officer and sergeant, killing them both. Three other army personnel rushed to the scene but were also shot dead by the soldier. Seeing that more soldiers were rushing towards him, the soldier then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

Mr. Sakounts says the rogue soldier was Karo Ayvazyan from Yerevan. He had lived for a while in the United States and some reports say he served some jail time there. Mr. Sakounts also says that Ayvazyan had some mental problems that the army apparently overlooked or weren’t aware of when he was conscripted.

He tried to get the names of the others killed form Moushegh Aghekyan, who works at the Defense Ministry’s Press Office. He told us that he didn’t have the names but that the Ministry would be issuing a statement in about one hour.

We also contacted Senor Hasratyan, who heads the Public Affairs and Press Division with the NKR Defense Forces. His reply was that, “I have no connection with such information.”

We should note that the current NKR Minister of Defense, Movses Hakobyan, was one of the former commanders of this military post and that Artsakh and Armenia National Hero Monte Melkonian played a role in its establishment.

Editor – Since official news sources have remained tight-lipped regarding the incident, we have been reporting details of the incident as they come in. We are in the process of verifying such reports.

The RoA Defense Ministry website has just released the following names of those who died during a firefight at an Armenian army post on July 28.

Senior Lieutenatnt Vardges Tadevosyan (Yerevan), Garegin Hovsepyan (Etchmiadzin), Andranik Sargsyan (Yerevan), Robert Hovhannisyan (Vanadzor), Artyom Manasyan (Charentsavan) and Karo Ayvazyan (Yerevan).

Although Armenia should be vigilant it appears that selling S300s to Azerbaijan has more to do with possible attack by US/Israel on Iran.

According to RT US troops currently are stationed in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan is not denying it.
Azerbaijan is saying that US troops are there as peace keepers against armed rebels ( I wonder who do they have in mind).

I know many US (NATO) war planes fly over Georgia and Azerbaijan on their way to Afghanistan. There has been talks of using two airbases in Azerbaijan under a partnership agreement with NATO which supposedly has nothing to do with Iran other than bad timing....hard to believe though. There was also talk of US using Artsakh border city (Fizuli?) with Iran but according to Iranian ambassador to Armenia no such deal will be approved.

It is true though, Israel has massed troops in Saudi airbase
