Ok everybody.
I will not be telling any military secrets of what I am observing now.
1) the history shows that Azeris do not do well in the war of attrition. Their and Turkic methods are surprise attacks with large numbers most of the time. If things drag long and quality of fighting force starts to play more role then sudden and opportunistic attack tactics, their morale and cohesion drops dramatically.
The key here is to make them pay very heavily for each meter and each minute of war. Soon they loose their organization and each soldier starts to mind his survival, which soon leads to panic.
We may retreat, but we have to make sure that Azeris do not go for peace after any gain. They have to come to peace only by loosing, otherwise they are motivated to repeat. That is their only choice.
That is what has been happening for past years, with each our soldier shot on line by their snipers was declared a victory, no matter how many of theirs was killed in exchange. Their mentality is, as long as the individual is not in danger, then it is a victory for each Armenian dead, no matter how many compatriots die as long as it's not him. This is because he may be Azery and their losses Talish, Kurd or other nationality.
2) Unlike first war, the Turkish influence is very big on Baku. It has been for some time. If Aliev makes the mistake and goes for prolonged large war, his boyfriend edroghan is bound to get more involved. This will become the same story with behind the curtain Turkish involvemeunt as in Syria. That in turn will bring the same reaction from Russia.
So far Russia is pretending to be impartial and treat both, is and Azeris the same. But in past years Turkish influence has been growing in Caucasus which cannot leave Russia very happy.
The only way to bring Baku under full controll and cut Turkish tentacles is like first time, when Baku goes to Moscow asking help in ceasefire. This will happen after we smash Azery armies in Artsakh.
When it was peace time, aliev's power was strong and trying to take him from power for a more prorussian leader would lead to alienating Azery nation more and into the arms of NATO/turkey.
But is Azerbaijan looses war and becomes uncontrollable, Aliev loosing controll, Russia may be the only savior for Azerbaijan, preventing total beak up.
For that Russia has to make sure turkey stays out as Armenia takes care of Baku in war.


So in conclusion.
Aliev has stepped in a minefield big time. This could be because of domestic issues and turkeys influence and many other factors.
He was hoping that this attrition would be short with few gained positions and maybe a village or two with many Armenians dead and a big victory PR.
But things are getting out of hand. He just stirred a hornets nest. The fighting resiliency (which Turks forgot in excitement of purchases of military toys) and public resolve, volunteer movement in Armenians is extraordinary. It prevents Baku of ending this story in quick handshake and satisfaction.
Besides, Armenian government feels the power of unity and opportunity.
Serj Sargsian already declared that ceasefire will be only with post 1994 contact lines and if Azerbaijan goes for large scale war then Atmenia will recognize Artsakh(enter the war which means more territories lost, more likely).
No easy way out for Aliev. About er dog an, he proved convincingly that he is loosing his touch lately.
The trap is set, and I don't think that only Yetevan is holding the snare line (not only Moscow too).

Anyway, I invite him to get convinced in that. I ensure his personal security”, Hovhannisyan said.

I'd say it's carrying an important russian military official who will be discussing a ceasefire between both sides

“Up to 170 soldiers, 12 armored vehicles of Armenia have been eliminated”
Baku – APA. Suffering huge losses as a result of preventive measures and precise strikes carried out Azerbaijani armed forces, Armenian soldiers are fleeing their positions in panic, leaving behind arms and ammunition, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement on April 4.

As a result of a counter-attack on Apr. 4, Azerbaijan’s armed forces neutralized up to 170 servicemen and 12 armored vehicles of the Armenian side, the Defense Ministry said.

“Field engineering work is underway in strategic positions liberated by Azerbaijani forces. Actions of visual exploration of the area and firing correction are being carried out,” the ministry said.

If Armenia can hold off Azeris or better yet make any advancements.. Aliyev will be out of power. I just hope Armenian's aren't overly confident and underestimate the enemy.
