Yerevan /Mediamax/. Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Davit Tonoyan visited Artashavan community in Aragatsotn marz to get familiar with installation of new anti-hail stations.

In the frames of the pilot program two “Elia-3” type stations have been installed in Aragatsotn and one in Armavir marz, which created a chain of protection.

The stations will be ready for operation in the next few days and will provide reliable protection for 45,000ha of agricultural lands from hail damage.

The anti-hail cannons will be applied according to the data from the radiolocation station, which will secure high accuracy of targeting.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations will ensure continuity of the program based on the pilot version in order to protect agricultural areas in other Armenian marzes.

This is a rather odd way of fixing the hail problem Armenian farmers have, as much as I've seen, Armenia, Russia and Georgia are the only countries to be operating this extreme but efficient level of fixing hail storms, they're called Anti Hail stations.

The evidence is against these devices sadly.

We got the Mythbusters to bust one of our stories! Can a "Hail Cannon" actually stop hail from happening?

                  Scientific evidence

There is no evidence in favor of the effectiveness of these devices. A 2006 review by Jon Wieringa and Iwan Holleman in the journal Meteorologische Zeitschrift summarized a variety of negative and inconclusive scientific measurements, concluding "the use of cannons or explosive rockets is a waste of money and effort".

There is also reason to doubt the efficacy of hail cannons from a theoretical perspective.[4] For example, thunder is a much more powerful sonic wave, and is usually found in the same storms that generate hail, yet it doesn't seem to disturb the growth of hailstones. Charles Knight, a cloud physicist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado said in a July 10, 2008 newspaper article that "I don't find anyone in the scientific community who would validate hail cannons, but there are believers in all sorts of things. It would be very hard to prove they don't work, weather being as unpredictable as it is."

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

Not the hail canons londontsi, the Anti hail systems, these bastards are technologically impressive but have limited use, Georgia seems to be the most invested in it using over 450,000 hectors? I think, to fix their hail issue, the one we have is the newest version, very recent too. Odd move from our government.

                    • We may be getting Yak-130. Irkut representatives were in Armenia for 3 days meeting officials and I can't help but notice it happens near the same time a new $100 million Russian arms loan was granted to us.
