Nationalist leader Steve Bannon slammed U.S. allies Turkey and Qatar in an interview with Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on Saturday.
“Turkey is the biggest danger for us,” Bannon declared.
“No, not even close to Iran,” he continued, waving his hand in dismissal of the popular notion that Iran and North Korea are the greatest threats the United States faces abroad.
“We don’t read well what is going on in Turkey right now, under [Turkish President] Erdogan,” Bannon said. “This is an issue I am going to pursue hard.”

"Consumers have taken it on the chin over the past two years in Azerbaijan, an energy-rich country in the Caucasus ruled by authoritarian President Ilham Aliyev since 2003.

In 2015, the Azerbaijani Central Bank twice devalued the country's currency, the manat, as slumping global prices for oil and natural gas sent the economy reeling. The currency lost half of its value vis-a-vis the U.S. dollar and average Azeris lost half their life savings as a result.

For those holding bank debt there was the extra burden of having to pay back the loans -- fixed in U.S. dollars -- with devalued manats.

A sharp rise in the suicide rate in Azerbaijan is being blamed, in part at least, on the growing consumer-debt crisis there.

Բարզանին հրաժարական կտա Իրաքի Քուրդիստանի նախագահի պաշտոնից

Իրաքի Քուրդիստանի նախագահ Մասուդ Բարզանին, որն այս պաշտոնը զբաղեցնում է 2005 թվականին այն հաստատվելուց հետո, պատրարաստվում է հրաժարական տալ մեկ ամիս հետո այն բանից, երբ անցակացրեց անկախության հանրաքվեն:

Բարզանին իր նախագահական լիազորությունը չի երկարաձգի, որոնց ժամկետը լրանում է նոյեմբերի 1-ին: Քրդական լրատվամիջոցներին վկայակոչեկով՝ BBC-ն հայտնում է, որ այս մասին կհայտարարվի կիրակի՝ խորհրդարանում կընթերցվի նրա ուղերձը:

Դեռեւս շաբաթ օրը քրդական խոհրդարան ուղարկված ուղերձում նշված է, որ Բարզանին առաջարկում է իշխանության բարեփոխում իրականացնել: Այս մասին Reuters-ին հայտնել է նախագահի ուղերձին ծանոթ պաշտոնյան:

Ծրագրով նախատեսվում է նախագահական լիազորությունների բաժանում կառավարության, խորհրդարանի եւ դատական համակարգի միջեւ:

Նոյեմբերի 1-ին լրանում է Բարզանիի լիազորությունների ժամկետը, եւ Իրաքի Քուրդիստանում պետք է նախագահական ընտրություններ անցկացվեին, սակայն անցյալ շաբաթ անորոշ ժամկետով հետաձգվել էին՝ կապված շրջանի իրավիճակի կտրուկ սրմամբ:

Նախկինում Բարզանին արդեն ասել էր, որ մտադիր չէ նախագահի պաշտոնում վերընտրվել, սակայն քչերն էին սպասում, որ նա խոստումը կպահի: Դեռեւս 2013 թվականին նա հրաժարվել էր լքել նախագահի պաշտոնը, երբ նրա լիազորությունների ժամկետը լրացել էր, իսկ 2 տարի հետո այն կրկին երկարաձգվել է խորհրդարանի որոշման շնորհիվ

Turkey-led militias prepare offensive to seize Manbij from US-backed forces

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 P.M.) – Turkey-led militias in northern Aleppo province have asserted a clear intention to launch an offensive to capture the large town of Manbij, currently held by US-backed forces.

Yesterday, the Turkish-backed factions of the Free Syrian Army in northern Aleppo dispersed leaflets saying that Syrian rebels will seize the town of Manbij from US-backed forces “no matter what the cost is.”

Manbij was captured from ISIS by the Syrian Democratic Forces in June 2016 after a two month battle. Following the Turkish military intervention in northern Syria, Turkey demanded that all Kurdish militias in the Manbij region withdraw east of the Euphrates.

Officially, Manbij and the area around it is void of Kurdish fighters and only US-backed Arab factions of the Syrian Democratic Forces are present there (although there is little evidence to decisively prove this).

The town has constantly been a source of tension between Turkey-led militias and the US-backed forces.

Turkey coordinates actions in Syria with Russia – Kremlin

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has commented on the new Turkish operation in Idlib, which is the second Turkish military campaign in the Syrian territory.

“The Turkish side is responsible for ensuring security in the de-escalation zone. … Without a doubt, the member states to the Astana agreements coordinate their actions on the issue of establishment of de-escalation zones,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked whether Turkey was coordinating its actions with Russia.

Commenting on reports regarding Turkey’s alleged attempts to come to a ceasefire agreement in the Idlib province with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group affiliated with Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, Peskov said it was better to ask the Defense Ministry about that, as he had “no details.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to deploy the country’s soldiers to Syria’s Idlib, where Free Syrian Army rebel fighters backed by Ankara have launched an operation against al-Nusra Front terrorists on October 7.

Commenting on the Idlib operation, the Turkish prime minister, Binali Yildirim, said that Ankara’s actions in Idlib are coordinated with Moscow. The Russian Defense Ministry hasn’t yet commented on Turkey’s operation, however, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that Russia is ready to support armed groups fighting al-Nusra Front in Syria’s Idlib de-escalation zone.

According to the Turkish General Staff, the Turkish Armed Forces, operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone to observe the cease-fire, ensure humanitarian aid deliveries and to create conditions for the population to return to their homes, began setting up their observation posts on October 12, within the framework of agreements reached during the Astana peace talks brokered by Russia, Turkey and Iran.


Days after the Turkish soldiers and military equipment arrived in Idlib, the Syrian Parliament strongly condemned the military campaign, calling it an “invasion” and an “aggression” violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country and demanded “the withdrawal of Turkish forces without any preconditions.” According to the Syrian Parliament’s statement, the Idlib operation “has nothing to do” with the agreements reached during the latest round of the Syrian peace talks between Damascus and the armed opposition in Astana.

The Idlib operation is the second Turkish military operation on Syrian soil. From August 2016 until March 2017, the Euphrates Shield campaign conducted by the Turkish Army with FSA rebel fighters aimed to clear the Syrian border town of Jarablus and the surrounding area of the Daesh terrorist group.

Ադրբեջանական կողմը հակառակ է գործում պայմանավորվածություններին, որոնք ձեռք են բերվում հանդիպումների ժամանակ։ Այս մասին այսօր կառավարության նիստից հետո լրագրողների հետ զրույցում ասաց ՀՀ արտաքին գործերի նախարարի տեղակալ Շավարշ Քոչարյանը:

«Հայտարարվել էր այն մասին, որ լարվածությունը պետք է նվազի, սակայն կատարվում է ճիշտ հակառակը, և դա արդեն դարձել է օրինաչափություն»,-ասաց նա և օրինակ բերեց, որ Վիեննայում մի բան են պայմանավորվում, բայց Ադրբեջանի քայլերն ուղղված են դրանք խոչընդոտելուն, նույնը՝ Սանկտ Պետերբուրգում:

«Այսինքն՝ որևէ նորություն չկա այդ տեսակետից, ցավալի է, բայց խնդիրը կայանում է նրանում, որ Ադրբեջանն իր անհեռատես քայլերով ինքն իրեն մղել է դեպի փակուղի բոլոր հարցերում»,-ասաց նա և նշեց, որ իր անկանոն քայլերով և գործողություններով Բաքուն նաև փակում է փակուղուց դուրս գալու ճանապարհը:

Ըստ փոխարտգործնախարարի՝ Ադրբեջանին վրդովեցրել այն հայտարարությունը, ըստ որի՝ հարցի ցանկացած կարգավորում ենթադրում է, որ Արցախը չի կարող լինել Ադրբեջանի կազմում:

«Դրա շուրջ սկսվել է վայնասուն Ադրբեջանում: Սակայն երբ որ Բաքուն հարցականի տակ է դնում Արցախի Հանրապետության անկախությունը, ինքը ձևացնում է, թե մոռացել է, որ նույն հիմքով անկախացել է թե՛ ԼՂՀ-ն, թե՛ Ադրբեջանը՝ Սովետական միության օրոք»,-ասաց նա և նկատեց, որ Արցախում անկախության հանրաքվեն ավելի շուտ է անցկացվել, քան Ադրբեջանում, ուստի իր անհեռանկար քայլերով կամ հայտարարություններով Ադրբեջանն իր անկախությունն է հարցականի տակ դնում: Նա հարց բարձրացրեց, որ եթե Ադրբեջանի համար սուրբ է տարածքային ամբողջականությունը, ապա ինչո՞ւ է անկախացել:

«Բանակցություններին խանգարողը Ադրբեջանն է, այնպես չէ, որ հայկական կողմերը խուսափել են բանակցություններից, ճիշտ հակառակը։ Սակայն երբ հակառակորդը պարտադրում է և ասում է՝ ամեն ինչ պետք է լինի այնպես, ինչպես ես եմ ուզում, ապա բնական է՝ տեղիք տալ չի կարելի»,-ասաց նա:

Շավարշ Քոչարյանը նշեց, որ բանակցությունների հեռանկարի հետ կապված համանախագահները շատ հստակ խոսել են իրենց բազմաթիվ հայտարարություններում, որ առաջընթացի համար անհրաժեշտ է համապատասխան հիմք, իսկ հիմքը կողմերի միջև վստահությունն է: Նա ասաց, որ այդ վստահությունը ձեռք բերելու համար անհրաժեշտ է, որ Ադրբեջանը կատարի միջազգային պարտավորությունները, իսկ հետաքննության մեխանիզմներն Ադրբեջանի միջազգային պարտավորությունն է:

«Այն, ինչ լինում է սեղանի շուրջ՝ փակ բանակցություններում, հայկական կողմը երբեք չի խախտել և չի էլ խախտի։ Խախտողը մենք գիտենք ով է՝ միշտ Ադրբեջանն է: Այն, ինչ խոսվում է բանակցությունների սեղանի շուրջ, դրանից հետո լրիվ ուրիշ բաներ է ասում, դա այնքան ակնհայտ է»,-ասաց նա:

Ինչ վերաբերում է հարցին, թե համանախագահներին բարձրաձայնվե՞լ է, որ Ադրբեջանը խախտում է պայմանավորվածությունը, փոխնախարարն ասաց. «Ի՞նչ է նշանակում բարձրացնել մի բան, որն անզեն աչքով երևում է, առավել ևս՝ համանախագահների համար»։

Փոխնախարարը, սակայն, նշեց, որ դա չի նշանակում, որ պետք է լռել: Նա ասաց, որ բանակցությունների մանրամասներին ծանոթ չէ, սակայն ապրիլյան պատերազմը լուրջ ազդեցություն է թողել նաև միջնորդների մոտեցումների վրա, ինչը երևում է:
