“Aravot” believes that the trouble with Armenian human rights campaigners is that they are too politicized. “Most of them are in opposition, although some of them are pro-government,” writes the paper. “But it is nonsensical to use those characterizations with respect to human rights activists. Their beneficiaries must be [ordinary] people, rather than one or another party figure.” The paper argues that those activists usually speak out on issues having a public resonance because “that way it’s easier to gain dividends and the reputation of a brave human rights fighter.”
“They usually don’t care much about ordinary people who live in a remote village and are treated like slaves by the village mayor,” continues “Aravot.” “The other trouble with human rights activists is foreign grants. Sometimes they are given for unclear purposes.”

Re: Western-financed Armenian "human rights activists" (and their anti-Armenian polic
The problem is not confusing, what you are describing are internal problems within Armenia or the Armenian political system and these should be solved only by Armenians themselves. There are always "cracks" in every society, there will be "cracks" now, there will be "cracks" in the future, that is why you have to counter the anti-Armenian policies by foreign powers who want to exploit "cracks". Most of the time, the "cracks" are not "cracks" but are presented as "cracks" or in even more cases, these "cracks" are the direct cause of the meddling of foreign powers.Originally posted by londontsi View PostCooperating with a foreign power to destabilize or overthrow your own government is treachery full stop.
The problem becomes “confusing” when the elements in power are themselves treacherous towards their own country and own people.
Corruption by people in authority is one form of treachery.
It creates cracks in society for bad intentioned powers to get a foothold.
Why complain when foreign powers find cracks to take advantage of and be tolerant towards treacherous elements in power.

Even if the only problem is "corruption" (which it is not), this does not give reason for us to stand idle and let foreign powers exploit the social situation in Armenia for their own benefit, which can cause great harm to the Republic of Armenia; actually, this topic is all about the consequences of the possible exploitation.Originally posted by londontsi View PostI will be sad if anything happens to the credibility of Putin.
However you have a way of ignoring the issues.
You think you can get rid of the problem by killing the messenger or highlighting another problem (in another country).
The issue is corruption whether elections, governance or unfair society and unfair distribution of wealth ..... its corruption.
This is true whether Russia, Armenia or anywhere else.
This does not mean that we should have said in March 2008, alright Armenians, there is corruption, and now the West funds Levon Ter-Petrosyan as he is anti-Russian, and if he comes to power we will lose Karabakh, but hey, there is corruption, so let's do nothing and let foreign countries do whatever they want in Armenia. Just like the Arabs are being exploited, we too have to let ourselves be exploited by foreign powers.
There is corruption in the United States army, this does not mean they have to give access to dozens of foreign media representatives and organizations to cover these stories, exploit these stories, and spread pessimist and negative spirits among their citizens.
Indeed, the West is using the so-called notion of "democracy" and "corruption" as a weapon for their own. And nobody is stating that we do not want a more fair, more prosperous Armenia. No, we should not let ourselves be exploited like the Arabs have been for the last dozens of years.
In this topic, you see the means Western-funded propaganda organizations use and their biasedness. They work directly against Armenian interests, and Armenians should not fall in their traps and be fooled by their lies.
If not for corruption, there are dozens of other things that can and will be used for them to exploit other nations (for examples, see the rest of the world). The problem lies deeper than just simple social problems, but I see it's very hard for you to understand.Last edited by Tigranakert; 12-11-2011, 03:14 AM.

Re: Western-financed Armenian "human rights activists" (and their anti-Armenian polic
We'll, who would guess that a US-funded NGO as the Helsinki Foundation Armenia, which has to deal only with Armenian affairs, would also be directly involved in anti-Russian propaganda?
The irony of course is, that this Artur Sakunts is being paid to demoralize Armenians and attack important Armenian institutions such as the Armenian army and the Armenian church. This idiot has been screaming like a little child and attacking our army because of the incidents that from time to time occur.About 20 people gather at Russian embassy in Yerevan
December 10, 2011 - 12:40 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net - About 20 people gathered at the Russian embassy in Yerevan on Saturday, December 10, to show solidarity with Russians who are protesting the results of the December 4 parliamentary election.
Asked by a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter why Armenian opposition leaders did not join the protest action, activist Samvel Karabekyan said “he expresses his own opinion while the stand of the Armenian opposition is a political issue which is bound to thorough investigation into election fraud allegations.”
Head of the Vanadzor office of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Artur Sakunts is also among the protesters.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people have gathered in different cities across Russia on Saturday to protest against alleged electoral fraud in favor of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party. Some 1,000 people rallied in the Urals city of Barnaul, about 200 at the central square in Chita and several hundreds of people in Krasnoyarsk, Russia’s Siberia, and more than 50 people came to an unsanctioned rally in Russia's Far East city of Khabarovsk.
Some 30,000 people intend to take part in an authorized rally in Moscow, which is expected to become the largest public protest in Russia in almost a decade.
As a defender of "human rights", why don't we hear him complain about the critical situation the United States army is in, where they bury their dead in a massive dump-hole and suicide rates have sky-rocketed? He happily joins the protests against the Russians, so why not be fair and consistent and also demonstrate in front of the US Embassy regarding the latest scandals in the US Army?
The answer is simple; they are biased. Dozens of NGO's, media and other representatives funded by the West do not work for the Armenian cause, they work against Armenia's cause. This is why we have to be careful of their actions, and if we want to minimize their damage on our society, we should effectively counter them.

Re: Western-financed Armenian "human rights activists" (and their anti-Armenian polic
Cremated remains of soldiers dumped into landfills, high murder rates amongst service members, war veterans sleeping in garbage dumpsters, large numbers of female soldiers raped during service, one of the highest military suicide rates in the world... not to mention the business-as-usual war crimes and gross embezzlement of public funds... No, I'm not talking about Russia nor am I talking about China. I am in fact talking about the proud military of the wealthiest, most powerful and the most advanced nation on earth, the United States of America.
You are not aware of the sad and corrupt state of the US armed forces today simply because of the larger than life power/influence of Washington's 24/7 propaganda machine and its total control of the nation's news press. Senior officials in Washington, however, make sure to let us know when a Russian or an Armenian citizen gets unfairly stopped by a traffic cop in Moscow or Yerevan... The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
A military that spends more on keeping its troops - air-conditioned - in Iraq and Afghanistan than most nations on earth spend on their armed forces has amongst the highest suicide rates in the world and American mothers are not protesting the matter in the destructive way, for instance, Armenian mothers do when similar tragedies occur in the Armenian military. Some reports claim that one-in-three American female military personal get raped by their comrades and we don't get to hear about it from American women's rights groups, we get to hear about it from foreign news agencies. While the Pentagon spends trillions of dollars on defense contractors for the acquisition of modern arms (and sometimes "misappropriates" trillions of dollars), American war veterans are increasingly finding themselves without proper housing, medical attention or employment opportunities.
Let's briefly juxtapose all this to what occurs in Armenia's military, a military who's yearly budget is significantly less than the cost of maintaining a single squadron of conventional warplanes in the US Air Force.
Couple of years ago, an Armenian army recruit got slapped around by one of his commanding officer during some drunken outing. The video clip of the "major incident" went absolutely viral in the Armenian world. We had Armenians from all walks of life, from PhDs to taxi drivers, from akhpars to rabiz, expressing severe outrage and utter indignation at the "barbaric act" in question. Western funded propaganda outlets disguised as independent press (such as Hetq and ArmeniaNow) of course picked up on the incident and featured articles about it on their websites. These "independent news" domains have long become distribution centers of poisonous rhetoric and Washington-inspired propaganda against Armenia, yet Armenians continue reading them.
Naturally, Western funded propaganda outlets take bad stories in Armenia and present them with inflammatory remarks and inciting language. These centers of psychological warfare operations disguised as news agencies create a perception that which they cleverly use towards political ends. It's not only Western funded news/propaganda outlets that operate in this manner. Armenia also has a not-so-little army of Washington funded NGOs sounding the alarm about everything and anything in Armenia...
The resultant: what we have is a deeply demoralized population today that is also systematically losing hope in the fledgling republic.
Armenia today is a tiny, poor, embattled, landlocked and a remote nation going through natural growing pains. Instead of approaching matters pertaining to Armenia sensibly, objectivity or rationally, as most civilized people do, Armenians enthusiastically and recklessly revel in attacking their state - as Azeris and Turks watch with pleasure. I can't blame Washington for doing what's in its interests, I can only blame our self-hating and self-destructive peasantry in the homeland and in the diaspora for mindlessly and sometimes intentionally helping Washington get us to this point.
One of the Western meddling agendas in Armenia has been to encourage feminist groups there to take-up the plight of women in the republic. Being a father of daughters, I would love to see a lot changed in Armenia with regards to the way women are generally treated. However, according to what I have personally observed in the country and according to various statistical data I have read, violence against women in Armenia is not a widespread problem. Yes, there are a lot of Islamic/Asiatic mentalities prevailing in the country when it comes to women - but no widespread abuse and/or violence. In fact, abuse rates in Armenia seem to be on the level of many developed nations. However, with such matters, there should always be more room for improvement. Therefore, yes, let's talk about this serious problem, let's raise our voices in protest, let us try to improve the situation - but let us also not get all hysterical over the matter and let's not start demanding a bloody revolution in the country!
Armenians need to wake up and realize that chaos and a bloody revolution in Armenia is something the Western alliance is working diligently towards through xxxxxs like Raffi Hovanissian, Richard Giragosian and Ara Manoogian, and through subversive organizations like Policy Forum Armenia and agencies like Radio Liberty, ArmeniaNow, Lragir and Hetq.
If it makes the reader feel any better about Armenia (because we Armenians desperately need a more positive, healthier approach to Armenia's growing pains), allow me to just say that abuse of women is actually much worst in most other nations on earth today. Millions of women are abused, exploited and forced into prostitution, alcoholism and drug abuse in the United States alone! Again, let's try to put things in a proper perspective and look at Armenia's problems - rationally!
Regarding violence in the Armenian military: one doesn't need to be a genius to realize that any time you put together thousands of hotblooded young men from poor families and mediocre education, in the Caucasus of all places, not to mention overflowing "Armenian" hormones, you WILL have violence even under the best of circumstances!
In my humble opinion, Armenian mothers today are one of the obstacles actually hindering Armenia's entry into the modern world. Armenian mothers need to stop worshiping/pampering their beloved sons and realize that their brats need to grow the hell up, get self-reliant, get some discipline and learn how to protect their homeland. In the process, some of them will get hurt or die; but that is the nature of the beast. For their part, Armenian men need to learn that being a man has nothing to do with wearing fancy black clothing, chasing xxxxxs, smoking cigarets all day, driving a Benz and growing a "chalaghaj" belly. Being a man means: working hard, understanding the world one lives in, respecting women, loving one's homeland, obeying laws, acknowledging authority, developing a healthy body and mind, having discipline... and when the time comes, protecting your homeland from enemies both foreign and domestic.
Due to its very nature, all armies on earth have problems; depending on sociopolitical and socioeconomic circumstances, some nations just happen to have more problems than others. For instance, violence in the Turkish military is much greater than that of Armenia's. Rapes, severe beating and murder of young men serving in the Turkish military are fairly common, yet we never see or hear Turks say anything derogatory about their military. This is not because of the controlled news press in Turkey, this is because of the worship Turks have towards their military and their state. In this regard, compared to Turks, Armenians are a bunch of self-destructive backward peasants. Turks are a nation of soldiers unconditionally serving their "vatan". Armenians are a nation of wannabe-generals who's allegiance to Armenia is conditional upon how well they are living in the country.
I would like to say that I am in no way condoning violence. Periodic violence that occurs in the Armenian military, although normal by international standards, will gradually improve with better order enforcement; which is beginning to happen.
And as far as general crime is concerned: Armenia is actually a safe-haven compared to many developed nations today. It is well established that there is a direct correlation between poverty and crime. Although a large percentage of its population lives in utter poverty, Armenia is amongst a handful of nations on earth today where people do not fear walking the streets late at night and children continue to play unsupervised in their neighborhoods. With time and with healthy activism, I believe Armenia's various sociological problems will be taken care of. In the meanwhile, self-respecting Armenians need to allow Armenian to develop/evolve naturally. As I keep saying, What Armenia needs is social and political evolution, not a Western funded revolution.
Moreover, we need to work with the Armenia we have today instead of destroying it while pursuing the Armenia of our fantasies.

And in the 2012 Lottery, the number of winners from Armenia is close to one thousand, US Consul to Armenia Robert Farquhar stated, during a press conference on Thursday, adding that with this indicator Armenia is the clear leader in the region. Farquhar also informed that in 2011 the number of Green Card Lottery winners was around 700 in Georgia, and 350 in Azerbaijan. Also, 2,400 people became Green Card winners in Russia.
