Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Also, another indicator is with which group of people the individual feels more comfortable with, with which group of people it connects more easily to. So these main factors in my view can say a lot about person's "status".

Assimilation is a reality and a fact. It's impossible to come up with concrete numbers of statistics regarding assimilation, but I believe that we can all agree it's occurring and it's detrimental to Armenian nation. Assimilation is the ultimate dilemma and problems for any immigrant group in the world.
Sure it happens, but to what extent? My point is that if you cannot measure it then you cannot say it has gotten better, worse, or stayed the same.

We do know, just look at Europe. Same thing can happen to Armenia, which itself has a low birth rate and high migration rate, if the ideals of "multiculturalism" are spread and immigrants encouraged to come and make Armenia a more "diverse" society.
Then why is it that immigrants to Europe didn't assimilate, but Armenians who immigrate to Europe will? Armenians immigrating to the US will? But other groups immigrating to Armenia, won't assimilate; they'll maintain their own culture and dilute Armenianness in Armenia?

My question was how do you reconcile all of this? WHY do you think it would be different?

Assimilation is natural in any country, especially countries that are made for immigrants (US, Canada, Australia, Russia/UK to an extent). For a nation that has a large diaspora in such countries the problem of assimilation is going to be even higher. It's using simple logic really, plus the fact that I have seen it with my own eyes.

A large factor is religion. The Muslim population is the group that is hard to assimilate in Europe. Muslims are insular and one important fact of them is that they rarely marry outside of their religion. It's against Islamic law for muslim woman to marry non-muslim man. Cultural assimilation will also be affected by the religion. So they have barriers that help them not assimilate, we don't have such religious barriers. But also take into account that it's harder to assimilate in Europe than the Americas.

I think in countries like Holland, it's not that there won't be cultural assimilation because there will, it's just that dutch people don't care much for immigrants and there won't likely be inter-marriage.

Holland is a joke. I won't be surprised if their culture disappears like Amsterdam will disappear as the sea level rises. But even with that apathetic stance towards their culture and national identity, they still complain about the influx of immigrants and demographic situation. I'm afraid it's too late Holland, go drown in your liberal, multicultural swamp.

We need to encourage birth in Armenia. Make it a national project. Give great incentives for having children, maybe even give an apartment if you have x number children or more. I will contribute my share when it comes time.

There is no such thing as a one way street when it comes to that.......time (life experiences) can change things as well.

Mos said something very true......who do you feel more comfortable to hang around with among the rest.

Americans, to their dismay, say "man you Armenians are a close net group"......everyday I see more Armenian merchants popping out stores in cities that there were no Armenians cleaning the place out and beautifying the streets. Churches, schools, concerts, BMW hot rods you can't get away from them Armenians, I tried.

Another way to approach the demographic problem in Armenia is to ban abortions in addition to the incentive program in having children.

Erodogan has made it an policy of constantly encouraging Turks that every family should have 3 children. It would be great to see this done in Armenia. Unfortunately this is easier said that done if you don't have the economy to support families of 3 children.

Right because Armenia doesn't have enough orphans. Great idea. Take away people's freedoms.

I'm noticing this is a theme with all of your improvement suggestions. Women aren't making good decisions, so we should take the decision from them was another of your suggestions right? Do you have any ideas that don't involve encroaching on people's liberties? Won't this kind of legislation discourage the diaspora Armenians from repatriating? I know it would discourage me from doing so. Why would I relocate to a country that significantly limits my freedom relative to where I am now? I know there are lots of reasons to move, but my point is that these kinds of things would be significant negatives to weigh against those positives. You're very ideological and not very pragmatic.

The incentives are a better idea. Didn't Artsakh do something similar to stimulate the birth rate? With the mass weddings and housing or what not?

Banning abortions doesn't take away people's freedoms... it just makes them responsible for their actions. Same reason you used to learn to write with a pen. It would force you to make less mistakes because you couldn't just take an eraser to your thoughts so you'd learn to think before you wrote. Also, I think a doctor should have the freedom to say no to performing abortions since it's not a life saving procedure. So it seems people see freedom in things that only benefit them... even though it forces others to do things against their will.
