What cultural traits do Armenians share?

Armenianisms
Shoshan, I am in an Armenianless environment myself. I care a lot about being Armenian though. I don't know how I grew up to be this way with my Russified family in Baku, Russia, and Michigan. lol It is kind of silly, but I say that I have the spirit or soul of Armenia inside of me. This is symbolism on my part of course, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

<<Rabinovich: "So, what cultural traits do Armenians share after all? In a few words, can anyone summarize? Did we reach any results in this discussion?">>
I must confess: I have come to feel much affection for the posters here. The results of this discussion prove (to me anyway) that we do, in fact, share a certain sensibility... maybe a better word is commonality. I was being honest when I said I had never met another Armenian outside my family, yet I immediatedly felt a sense of fellowship (yeah, I know this sounds corny. but it's true none-the-less).
I post on many sites and have never felt such a viseral sense of: "I know what you mean." Hey, maybe many of you feel this everyday...but I don't and it felt great. The most astounding thing I found on this site was the absence of people asking "Where the hell does that idea come from?" There is something comforting about not having to explain the obvious, especially when it comes to issues that concern us .
>>Anonymouse: No, but apparently one cultural trait they all share is going off tangent like in this thread.<<
This cracked me up, I just could not stop giggling....I loved discovering that even though I've never met another Armernian (other than my family) I recognize certain er...um...Armenianisms
>>Rabinovich: "I don't know, I don't consider myself terribly Armenian either, and I don't think grouping people into nationalities is the best and most precise partitioning of human beings."<<
Finally, something I disagree with you aboutThe problem, my friend, is that many do not share your feeling that: "....grouping people into nationalities is the best and most precise partitioning of human beings." They not only do it, they fashion their lives on this premise/ ideology. I hear it everyday.
>>Armobarbi: "I don't think that nationality or ethnicity are good ways to categorize either."<<
I sincerely wish everyone embraced this, but they don't.Last edited by Shoshan; 03-22-2005, 09:33 PM.

Also, you didn't answer to my PM (which was a reply to your PM, forgot to mention), so alas I can't share the same level of affection towards people who ignore me...Last edited by rabinovich; 03-22-2005, 08:09 PM.

Rabinovich,
You must believe me, I have tried to write you back (PM) no less than 5 times. I live in a historic district and they are monkeying around with our electrical wiring. Every time I'm about to hit the send button the lights/electricity have gone out. I respect your thoughts very much and would never ignore you. In fact, at the risk of sounding smarmy, I enjoy your posts so much I wrote you (almost) a fan letter.
Most Sincerely,
ShoshanLast edited by Shoshan; 03-22-2005, 08:33 PM.
