I told her to go back and ask her parents about her Armenian roots several times and each time she told me her family told her there were no Armenian roots. I told her that Alaverdi is a region of Armenia and several famous Armenians have been Alaverdians and other Christian Iranians don't have such last names. Anyways, I gave up on this poor person whose parents are the real culprits. I told her I thought they were ridiculous and we never spoke again. Who knows maybe later on in life she'll find out the trooth.
You are wrong Karoaper! As you mentioned there is a region in Armenia called Alaverdi but the root of that word is simply Persian and not Armenian !I know that there are a lot of Persians(Muslims, not Armenian-Persians) whose family name is Alahverdi or Alahverdian just like some Armenians so she is Persian. I had previously explained on this issue and the misunderstandings caused by in this thread(you might have not read it) and one more to add: sometimes , some Iranians(muslims) who leave Iran, they’ve got such a complex to express about their religion so that they find it more classy to pass as a Christian (however some convert to Christianity secretly as it is banned in Iran, it is estimated that about 1000000 christan persians leave secretely and lie about their religion!)

I’m a Persian-Armenian speaker, knowing this my professor at university asked me to do a research on Armenian names whose roots are thought to be Persian(first, I resisted saying: no you are wrong there are not so many names with Persian root in Armenian but as she threatened me to give a 0! I did it) and obviously I found a lot of names, I could not believe it but that was true. (if you would like I can send you some shocking examples which I couldn’t believe)

Why are you complicating the issue? This guy is Persian, that’s it.(even if armenian who is surley not, i don't understand why he would have said persian to escape from the fact that he is armenian?)

First you make him Armenian falsely, and then criticize his ignorance of being Armenian.

Did I mention she drove a supped up Civic and her name was Saykanush?
Ok, so it is possible that I was unnecessarily rude to her, when her parents were in fact non-Armenians? In my defence, my uncle lives on Alaverdian street in Yerevan and I'm pretty sure the street is not Persian?

            Saykanush, what is that name?
The street Alaverdian is Armenian(as you say) but the root of the word is Persian. Verd is used frequently in Persian literature and means rose!

                Attacked????

I think I've said this before, but oh boy, you guys do take this SO seriously. No one is atacking him...whether he is Armenian or not doesn't really make any difference in our lives, does it? We were just having a discussing about a topic that could have been anything, but I happened to use an actual example...

Now you got me thinking...is he a relative of yours????

I did not take it seriously!

If he is a relative of mine, he might be yours too! ( remember! we were cousins!)
