  • Everyone, I don't know where to put this so I decided to put it in the introduction thread...I've been thinking about starting a "news thread" (covering Sarkozy, Abdullah Gul etc. I assume you know what I mean) but the thing is, I don't know if we already have one, and frankly I don't know if you guys would want one. I just think a lot of things are happening in the world today that are worth discussing. I certainly would love to hear your opinions about things like the political turmoil in Turkey or Sarkozy winning the elections etc. But let me know first whether anyone would be interested

Jade, my feeling is, wrong forum. The subjects would be off-topic for here.
However, I think I understand where you are coming from (though you are wrong to be making any connection between Sarkozy and Abdullah Gul). There is a need for a forum/mesage board in which news reports, intelligent comments, and serious discussions can exist. I would like to see one just dedicated to Armenia, Turkey, and all the neighbouring countries, etc, all combined in one forum. If such a place does exist - point me to it!
Those that exist at the moment are mirror images of the very worst aspects of the countries and nations they purport to represent, i.e. full of nationalist clap-trap and inhabited (and owned) by foul-mouthed morons.

      PS
Should say that I don't include this forum as one of the above! (But that is really only because it is small, with a limited membership, and specialised).

bell is correct. This site is for the most part, very specialized. Quite frankly, I too believe there is most certainly a need for a forum where regional issues can be discussed but I think the site would last only a short while due to all the negativity and nationalism and I agree that most of the ones that exist are insignificant and inhabited by people you would probably do best to avoid.

Just post it anyway, Jade. Maybe under "general discussions". There is a difference between making a one-off, slightly off-topic thread and making an entire new "news not related to the Armenian Genocide" section.

            • I suppose a single thread dedicated to current events related to Turkey, Armenia, etc will be fine but we should do our best to keep it to one single thread.

              Go ahead Jade.

That's exactly what I had intended to do in the first place actually Thanks for the permission! I'll start one as soon as I can...(so much work at school right now, can't seem to find the amount of time I would like to dedicate to this forum)

                • Hello I'm New Here.

Hello. I'm Vik. I'm Chinese. My parents are immigrants from Malaysia and China. I speak English, Enping, Cantonese, Spanish. I like SCUBA diving, most water sports, riding horses, raising animals, and reading. I enjoy the outdoors. I'm currently learning some Russian. I've always been interested in history. I'm here to learn. I'm very curious and I sometimes go to extremes to explore my curiosities and learn more about everything.

                    • Greetings from Turkey(don't run away, though). I've just finished my third year in university(junior in US iirc), my major is international relations and will apply for a master programme in Sweden next year. After a quick chat with the course instructor, he gave away some clues which I interpreted as "prepare to write a thesis about the genocide". I'm cool with that, I'm not a denier, though I can't really claim that I'm an expert(not a newbie either - I specialized in different subjects).

After some basic research, I gathered some sources(both in TR & EN), though the pages seemed endless. So I thought I should stop acting oldschool and give web a shot. This board looks like it has a good deal of information.

I think that clarifies my purpose, no need to go overboard in an introduction thread. Besides English, I can speak German and little bit of Russian(took courses a year ago - now starting to forget!). I'm a fan of team sports, though I appreciate great individual talents. I don't want to give personal details because I generally have company when I post on political forums(few ultranationalist nutjobs). This is not my usual screen name either.

Haven't really digested the site but it's little bit different than I had imagined. Not necessarily in bad way though, I thought more of a war-zone like place rather than a simple, clean forum. Credit goes to staff I guess.

I'll try to contribute when I have the chance, if I come across related threads, I'll drop my $0.02. Other than that, I'll look for specific threads that can help me to understand the dynamics of the era, once I start, I should be fluent to point out cause-effect connections.
