Genghiz Khan, one of the most powerful and mystical figures of world history, is claimed to be the founder of globalization.

A symposium was organized in honor of the 800th anniversary of the Mogul Empire in China. More than 50 experts and researchers from China, Mongolia, Russia, Japan and the United States gathered at the symposium.

The China Daily newspaper wrote ‘Genghiz Khan gave importance to trade and cultural business at a level that is equal to today’s globalization.’

The newspaper wrote that what they understood of globalization was drinking Coca Cola in Calcutta and resting at Starbucks in Shangai. China Daily also defended the roots of globalization reaches the foundation of Genghiz Khan’s Empire 800 years ago.

Some experts termed the Mongolian Empire’s Founder Cengiz Khan, the architecture of globalization.

You've got to be kidding me.

Maybe they should learn about Marco Polo.

Yeah, Tamerlane was the world's first Minister of Cultural Affairs. He was responsible for bringing Altaic Festival and War Traditions to everyone he encountered.

Armenia Understands Its Loss In War - Azeri Mp

            Author: J.Shahvediyev

            TREND Information, Azerbaijan
            June 14 2006

The Azerbaijani delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (PACE) have drafted 8 documents in connection with
the Armenian damage on the nature of occupied territory of Azerbaijan,
MP Rafael Huseynov, the Azerbaijani parliamentary representative to
            the PACE, told Trend.

He noted the poisoning of water, burning and cut of forests, burial
of nuclear wastes, as well as establishment of dangerous laboratories
in the Azerbaijani areas occupied 15 years. "Along with the military
aggression Armenia still pursues policy directed at damaging the
genetic fond of Azerbaijan," he stressed.

Armenians well understand that hey have lost the war though they
still keep under control the occupied areas with the help of foreign
forces. "Realizing their loss, they allow such cases of vandalism and
through committing provocation hinder the talks. But it is senseless,"
            he emphasized.

Huseynov said that in case the vandalism acts continue it will be
necessary to take reply steps. "In time consideration of the issue
at the Council of Europe and support by this organization will make
Armenians to step back from taking muddy steps," Huseynov underlined.

Historic Hoşap Castle in need of restoration
                Monday, June 19, 2006

                ANKARA - Turkish Daily News

One of the most magnificent structures built in the Ottoman period, the Hoşap Castle in the eastern Anatolian province of Van, is closed to visitors due to collapse in some of its sections.

The historic castle, situated on the Van-Başkale highway, 60 kilometers from Van city center, was built in 1643 by the Mahmudi dynasty. The castle, which sits on a sloppy rock, attracts many local and foreign tourists because of the specialties that can be found in its construction.

Assistant Professor Mehmet Top, a lecturer at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University's Art History Faculty, told an Anatolia news agency reporter that the castle was designated as an archaeological protection area, but that the building hasn't been restored.

Top added that as a result, the unrepaired portions of the castle were collapsing and that this posed a danger to the tourists visiting the castle.

In order to minimize that risk, the area is closed to visitors by the decision of the governor's office, said Top.

Top said a restoration project bid was initiated in November 2005 but bid results haven't been finalized since then and as a result restoration could not be launched.

Top emphasized that many people have been disappointed after seeing the castle's current condition.

Tufan Turenc: AKP's foot-under-the-table foreign policy strategy

So, did you read the other day in Yener Susoy's report how exactly it is that Turkey's foreign policy is being handled? In an interview with Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Susoy asks "Do you sometimes warn the Prime Minister not to get angry?" Gul's response puts the gravity of Turkey's foreign policy situation front and center: "I always warn him. When we are having meetings with foreigners, I sometimes even use my hand and feet to signal him. For example, at the meeting in Brussels on December 17, I kept on stepping on his feet under the table."

Just think, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic, stomping down on eachothers' feet under the table at an EU meeting. And we are talking about official meetings.

Once, when Prime Minister Erdogan didn't like what French President Jacques Chirac was saying, he yelled out "Hop hop!" I guess Gul hadn't been able to step on his feet in time. In any case, Chirac wondered what "hop hop!" meant, and insisted that his translator tell him. When he found out, he was angry. Even President George W. Bush has been driven crazy by the AKP view of foreign policy tradition. "These guys speak like horse sellers at one of our Texas markets," he said.

                  *****

What I wonder is this: how do our own diplomats deal with this Kasimpasa (the area of Istanbul Erdogan is from, known for its rough language and behavior) style? It probably makes most of them desperate.

A little while back, our Ambassador to Washington, Nabi Sensoy, warned the Americans: "Kurdish groups in Iraq are giving weapons and logistical support to the PKK." A little later in Ankara, the Kurdish foreign minister from Iraq is asked to bring 150 specifically named PKK militants under control. He says "We have given orders for what you want. But this is difficult business, because we are not in control in every region of the country." What this really means of course is "Hey man, we can't catch these guys."

So what you see here is that if you run your foreign policy using hand and foot motions, you will have no effect over your neighbors, or even your region.

                    • Perinçek refused entry into Switzerland

                      Saturday, June 30, 2007

                      ANKARA – Turkish Daily News

Turkish politician, Doğu Perinçek, convicted of racism for denying the alleged genocide of Armenians was refused a visa as he failed to produce legal documentation from his lawyer or the Lausanne court confirming his invitation to Switzerland, his Workers’ Party (İP) said in a statement released Thursday.
“This is an international outrage. The Swiss state is refusing to issue a visa for Perinçek,” read the İP statement. Officials from the Swiss Embassy said a letter of invitation from the Lausanne court or from his lawyer was needed to issue a visa for Perinçek and under those circumstances they could issue a visa for the day of invitation, it added.

Officials at the Swiss Embassy declined to comment on the refusal.

Last week, Perinçek lost his first appeal at a Swiss court in the canton (state) of Vaud, where a lower tribunal in March convicted and ordered him to pay a fine of 3,000 Swiss francs ($2,450).

Perinçek, who was also given a suspended penalty of 9,000 francs ($7,360) and ordered to pay 1,000 francs ($820) to an Armenian association, had repeatedly denied during a visit to Switzerland in 2005, that the 1915 killings of Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire amounted to genocide.

The İP leader is now planning to appeal to the Federal Tribunal, Switzerland’s Supreme Court, but he is unable to meet with his lawyer with respect to his rights to appeal, due to the lack of a visa.

“Switzerland is not allowing me to go to Lausanne to utilize my right to appeal,” Perinçek said at a press conference. “It is a strange situation. The Swiss state, the prosecuting party that convicted me, is refusing to let me go to Switzerland and defend myself in person.”
