Azeri Press And Mass Media Are Great Masters In Spreading Rumors

It’s quite impossible to response to rumors that circulate in the Azeri mass media. It’s commonly known that false ideology and lies are composed at state level and the mass media spares no efforts to spread the rumors. In order to make their rumors sound realistic, the Azeri journalists frequently refer to the Armenian mass media sources.

Naturally, RA defense minister Serge Sargsian, is one of the most favorite targets for the Azeri mass media. Recently, AzeriPress agency "informed" that, according to Martiros Sahakian, an official of RA Defense Ministry, Mr. Sargsian lost $650 thousand in one of the Yerevan-based gambling houses. According to the "information source" this sum was donated to RA Defense Ministry by archbishop Gnel Jerejian, head of Damask Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Yeghia Kilaghbian, abbot of Mkhitarist Congregation.

Certainly, we don’t need to discuss these rumors thoroughly. We just need to say that Gnel Jerejian passed away in 2001. As for the Mkhitarist Congregation, father Harutyun Pzdikian, representative of the Congregation, gave quite a definite and clear answer by stating that if they had such big financial sources they would have built their school in Yerevan.

Azeri Writer: We Must Crush And Smother Armenians Like Pests And Lepers

YEREVAN, MARCH 30. ARMINFO. Azeri "writer" and "intellectual" Elchin Gasanov calls for a new war with Armenia, in his article "War is Inevitable" in Echo daily he goes into the world history and compares the military experience of the German Nazi with the military experience of the Azeri army.

Openly expressing his sympathy for the Nazi, Gasanov reproaches the Azeris for their "complex of defeated." "It's awful! Armenians do not understand words. They must be crushed and smothered like pests and lepers." "So my conclusion is: iron and blood! War is inevitable!"

"Otherwise we will never be able to wash away our disgrace and nobody will respect us. It's bad but it's true." Noting that the Azeris have lost their Waterloo, Gasanov quite illogically claims: "War is the best cure for people, it cures and cripples. But we need it more than the Armenians do. But the Armenians want it too - or where will they spend the money they get from abroad? Whoever says that Armenians are altruists will cause my anger. This is a farce. They too love money, love living well."

So, in order not to cause Gasanov's anger we better not argue with him.

LOVING SON-IN-LAW “PRESENT” HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW WITH A ...SHELL YET THE LATTER DID NOT EXPLODE

On March 22 it has been informed that at about 17.00 a Gyumri citizen broke into the cottage of his mother-in-law and threw a shell of F1 type, yet the latter did not explode. As Panorama.am has been informed in Armenian Saving Service press centre the operative group of Shirak regional Saving Board evacuated the dwellers of the cottage to a safe territory. Workers of the Police, Security service as well as combat engineers were already at the site of occurrence. The shell was transferred to a safe territory in a box full of sand. /Panorama.am/

          Thank You Vecdi

          Thank You Vecdi
          By Garen Yegparian

We haven't had this much Turkish fun in the LA basin for a while. I suppose the Turkish government had forgotten where the victims of its genocidal policies reside in large numbers.

We of course demonstrated outside the Beverly Hills Hilton where Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul was addressing the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. But other than observing that participation seemed low, I can't speak to how well it went since I was inside being amused by the 'turkey-du-jour' Gonul.

He is presumably intelligent and competent at what he does, but it was not in evidence that day. His English seemed reasonably solid, but slow in coming forth. His speech was prepared and he read it— in a painfully obvious, tedious way, with an occasional live joke thrown in. He wasn't even able to get through the whole of it. Besides omitting portions of his comments about Iraq, he conveniently consumed the allotted time and left Caucasus and Artsakh issues out along with Central Asia. Nothing about Armenia of any substance was part of his presentation. You'd think we didn't exist (in his wishful thinking).

So what did he say? Much of it seemed somewhat general, though he did cite statistics about Turkey's expenditures in the realm of defense, with specifics focusing on purchases from the US and Israel. He emphasized Turkey's "even-handedness" in dealing with Israel-Palestine issues. Turkey's role in NATO was trumpeted to such a degree that the casual listener might think it founded the defense pact and single-handedly kept it alive. He took cheap shots at Syria and other neighbors, pointing out that of 18 current conflicts 13 are in Turkey's neighborhood.

This brings us to items of greater specific interest to Armenians. If so many conflicts are in its neighborhood, doesn't that suggest that Turkey is a cause of instability? Not according to good ole Vecdi. You see Turkey is a net "exporter" of security since 6149 personnel from 58 countries have participated in programs at the NATO Partnership for Peace Center established 1998 in Ankara. Translation: Turkey gets to wine and dine these folks in an attempt to win itself friends--and much of it at others' expense. Isn't that a great deal? In addition, "peace at home, peace in the world" is paradigmatic in Turkey (and for Gonul personally--sniffle, I am so touched) as stated by Ataturk, the magnificent peacemaker.

Terrorism, the catchall word for the Bush regime and its cohort of cronies and fawners, was prominently on display. Turkey (imagine violins playing) really understands what the US is going through after the September 11 attacks since it's been at war with terrorists (sic: Kurds justly seeking statehood) for 20 years at the cost of 32,000 lives.

Gonul ended his presentation with inane niceties and remarks clearly intended to kiss-up to American powers that be, an overabundance of the standard, fatuous fluff that attends such presentations by representatives of countries groveling to be in Washington's good graces.

It only got more ridiculous during the question and answer session, but more revealing. In the context of a response to a question about Iran, Gonul referred to Iraq as having been "part of our country." The only time that applied was during the Ottoman Empire (OE). So he clearly admits that the OE and Turkey are integral from the perspective of statehood, in this case successively. So much for arguments that the Genocide was committed by a "different" country.

Two questions of direct Armenian interest were posed. An elderly woman asked, in the kindest, most non-aggressive way imaginable, why Turkey refused to simply acknowledge the history of 1915. His response, "We are thinking there is nothing to acknowledge." Then he told of being from "Eastern Turkey" and half his father's family being massacred by Armenians. He also tried without ever making a clear point, to play divide-and-conquer by claiming there exist three types of Armenians: "our Armenians, Armenians in Ermenistan, and Armenians living all over the world." He then proceeded to describe how Armenians and Turks lived happily side-by-side until 1878 when part of the OE was lost to the Russian Empire. In this remark, he built on an earlier theme about how Turkey, continuing the policies of the OE, practiced multiculturalism, just as in the US (please hold your laughter 'til later). Then, the Russians trained young Armenians to hate Turks. When WWI commenced, these 'Turk-hating' Armenians returned to the OE and starting killing Turks. In response, the Turkish Army killed Armenians. Again, it's interesting that the Defense Minister confesses it was the army, an organ of the state, which did the killing. I told you it got more ridiculous. Can you picture a bunch of 50-60 year old Armenians running around in Turkish occupied Armenia, during WWI, mass-murdering Turks? This guy and his ilk ought to try their hand at stand-up comedy! Here, a fed-up outburst from the audience pointed out Gonul's lies. The participant was even threatened with removal.

The second Armenian question asked the minister what happened, in 1915, to the Armenian part of the mosaic of cultures and religions he'd claimed during his presentation constituted the OE. Here, the dangers of reading a speech prepared by someone else manifested. Gonul was clueless as to what "mosaic" meant. The question was repeated. Then the MC repeated it as he did with all the questions. Yet Gonul continued his fumbling. He asked what a "museum" had to do with the discussion. Finally, a man approached and clarified it for him, presumably in Turkish. He looked like a complete fool. It was pleasing. When he finally did respond, he claimed 152 nationalities and religious groups lived happily together until the West attacked and awoke the Christian population. Not that he claimed there were no killings, you see. Then he described having an Armenian "aunt"--I guess it's all the rage these days in Turkey to claim an Armenian relative, which in straight talk would be known as a Genocide survivor. And many Armenian boys were orphaned, and went to military schools and now live happily in the mosaic. Yup, believe it or not, his response was as disjointed as the last few sentences.

Throughout Minister Gonul's presentation, I was taking notes. One of the Turks at my table kept eyeing me nervously, wondering why. It was a great pleasure to observe his uneasiness. Meanwhile, his friend was busy regaling the woman sitting beside him with the glories of Turkish tourism. Isn't it great to usurp others' legacies, use it to make money and cover up your crimes against those very same people? When all is taken into account, we can only say "Thank you Mr. Gonul, thank you Turkey. Please send him to visit us more often." He's one of the best things for Armenians and others with grievances against Turkey, reminiscent of former Ambassador Sukru Elekdag, the boxer turned diplomat and his "masterful" mouthings.

            Zombying Of The Azerbaijani Public

ZOMBYING OF THE AZERBAIJANI PUBLIC AT THE TOP LEVEL PURSUES QUITE SPECIFIC GOALS: POLITICAL ANALYST

STEPANAKERT, MARCH 30. ARMINFO. "Ilham Aliyev's speech is nothing but a vaccine ruining the immune system of the Azerbaijani people. The zombying of the Azerbaijani public at the top level pursues quite specific goals," David Babayan, Karabakh political expert says commenting on the so-called "Genocide of Azerbaijanis" marked on March 31 in Azerbaijan.

The analyst says that the Azerbaijani president presents Armenians as the only enemy of Azerbaijan in the world. Such a policy affects the Karabakh conflict's settlement, which is moved from the Karabakh-Azerbaijan to Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, hereby having a negative influence on the stability in the South Caucasus, on the whole. No constructive steps or compromises can be expected from a country whose leader propagandizes anti-Armenism. Moreover, in his speech, Ilham Aliyev openly claims also Zangezour, D. Babayan says.

The expert believes that creating the image of an enemy, makes the Azerbaijani public manageable and radical. In fact, this radicalism will easily turn into terrorism. The barbarian destruction of the khachkars in Julfa is nothing but a cultural terrorism, D. Babayan believes. If the president says that Armenian occurred in Nakhijevan in the 19th century, they cannot be Armenian Christian cultural monuments of the 9th century, D. Babayan says.

He says by such policy, the Azerbaijani authorities give their national minorities to understand that any demand for observation of their rights will be considered a solidarity with Armenians and enmity to the Azerbaijani people. The given approach is nothing but a forced mechanism to form the Azerbaijani people. The Azerbaijani (Turkic) elite tries to forcefully assimilate Lezgins, Talishes, Tats and other peoples into a single Turkic ethnos. It should be noted that the ethnonym "Azerbaijanis" originate only in 1936 and then the Soviet authorities took the course of forming the united Azerbaijani people of all the Islamic peoples of Azerbaijan, D. Babayan said. The analyst says the unhealthy craving for historical falsifications is the state policy of Azerbaijan now.

              Turkish Attempt to Hijack UN

              Armenian scandal at UN

              © Copyright 2006 Hürriyet

A general sense of trouble was felt at the so-called “Genocide forum" held at the United Nations, following Turkish Professor Türkkaya’s disagreement with allegations by Armenians who had organized the event. Türkkaya Ataöv’s defense against the allegations caused the unsettled behaviour. While the UN was staging an "Armenian show", a New York Times journalists attempted to prevent Prof. Ataöv from talking causing a scandal at the forum.

Armenians in the US attempted to take the notion of “genocide” to the UN by organising the forum entitled, “Genocide: Then and Now. Lessons Learnt in the 21st Century”. Political Affairs Assistant to UN General Secretary Kofi Annan, Ibrahim Gambari’s name was also mentioned at the forum co-organised by Armenian, Rwandan Ambassadors and the Armenian General Benevolent Union.

However, on discovering that Turkey was targeted at the forum, Gambari stated that his name was placed on the list of speakers by mistake, and declined from making a speech.

Director of Genocide Research at the Zoryan Institute, Prof. Vahak Dadrian, put forward that the Armenian massacre had begun with the death of 200,000 Armenians during the reign of Abdülhmit. Dadrian also claimed that militant Islamists systematically massacred Armenians living in Anatolia, between 1918 and 1920.

Türkkaya Ataöv, a Turkish Historian also attending the forum, took the floor and asked, “You say that you are referring to secret reports from German sources stating that Ottoman rulers gave orders for genocide. You claim that the documents have been seen. Who has seen these documents and where are they?” causing a stir.

The forum Chairman, New York Times journalist, Andrea Kannapell attempted to stop Türkkaya Ataöv from speaking. Ataöv responded to this by saying, “You are taking sides. Dadrian gave a 40-minute speech, but you do not want someone of the opposite opinion to speak”, then went on to describe the important place Armenians held in Ottoman society, holding government positions amongst many others. Following Kannapell’s second attempt to quiet Ataöv, a group of Armenians in the room began to scold him.

Directing his words at the Rwandan Ambassador, Ataöv complained, “This forum is just for show.” Türkkaya Ataöv declared that the purpose of the forum was to take this “supposed genocide” to a global platform.

On 31 March a crowd of people gathered in the Sarachane Park to argue against allegations of the Armenian Genocide with the intention of remembering the mass killing of Azerbaijanis in Karabagh.

An association established to help Azerbaijanis in Turkey and the Istanbul Consulate of Azerbaijan. Organized a meeting to memorialize the day when Azerbaijanis were killed in Karabagh.

At least 300 Azerbaijanis and Turks turned up at the meeting in the Sarachane Park of Fatih area, Istanbul.

People carried Turkish and Azerbaijani flags, sang songs, and cursed the Armenians mass murder of Azerbaijanis.

“Karabagh will belong to Turks, and it will be a graveyard for Armenians,” chanted the crowd at the meeting, and carried placards reading, “We condemn the killing of Azerbaijanis by Armenians on 31 March. 31 March is [a historical record of] the genocide. The Armenian genocide is a lie, the Turkish genocide is true.”

Armenians are struggling to pass the Armenian genocide off as a true event, said Ibrahim Nebioglu, the Consul General of the Istanbul Consulate of Azerbaijan.

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has appealed a court decision that rejected compensation to him from Penguen, a satirical weekly, for its caricatures depicting Erdogan as animals.
The local court had decided that it was not an insult to portray Erdogan as animals.

In his appeal, attorney Fatih Sahin said that the caricatures were an assault to Prime Minister Erdogan's personal rights.

Penguen's front page on February 24, 2005 (with a title of 'The Tayyip World') was meant to protest a fine imposed on a political cartoonist who had depicted Erdogan as a cat entangled in a ball of wool over his government's failure to pass a bill easing conditions for religious school graduates to pursue higher education in fields other than theology.

Karabakh Offers Mamedyarov Nk Citizenship To Negotiate With Him

Karabakh conflict regulation talks steadily proceed, NK prime minister Anushavan Danielian told journalists in Yerevan. He thinks that Karabakh issue is a complicated one and cannot be settled at one stroke, and the present tension does not mean that the issue will be settled in 2006.

According to NK prime minister, Nagorno Karabakh regulation can become a model for other persisting conflicts. Dubbing usual the numerous cases of break of ceasefire, PM Danielian touched on the recent statement of Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mamedyarov according to which Azerbaijan will negotiate with Nagorno Karabakh directly if the people of Karabakh accept Azerbaijani citizenship. Danielian on his part stated that Karabakh will talk to Mamedyarov if the latter accepts citizenship of Karabakh as a representative of the Azeri community of Nagorno Karabakh.
