like my grandma always said, "inch yeghav ays seroontuh?" just what you described above regarding your niece happened to me. i was "trained" in the states. this mentality, "no matter how many Armenian role models", was ingrained into me via (yes, you hit it on the head) media in general (tv, film, music, videos, internet) and my social environment (i.e. peers). they are very influential and will change your behavior on a subconscious level. the final bastion of hope lies within the family unit maintaining it's cohesiveness and realizing the threat potential of these seemingly-harmless ideas. it only becomes more of a challenge when today both parents are working, families are geographically more separated, and the elders are degenerating and becoming demented earlier which ultimately leaves the children being babysat by either the tv or a nanny who really doesn't care. it's just sad.

Willow Smith and her terrible new song "Whip My Hair". so what if she's will smith's daughter? she's definitely just a repackaging of the now-defunct rihanna (sounds, looks, dances, etc.). btw, this song gave me a headache in less than one-third of a second. willow's a 9 year-old with the education of a 5 year-old (i'm being nice), using language resemblant of a text message, and with lyrics that don't even make sense. worse, she's giving life lessons to today's youth and the "ladies".

i can see it now, with parents saying, "why is little vartanik/vartanoush so char?" why can't he/she just focus on their studies, on the future, on doing paree things?


yeah, when i was 9 years-old, i definitely was looking to keep the party jumping i was also using my young mojo to convince adults that i had it all figured out and, if they liked my ideas, they should do as i do.



well, i guess will smith was right... after the youth begin to "whip it" to garbage like this, parents just won't understand.

My niece is seven and acts like she has the attitude of something out of mean girls... no matter how many Armenian role models she's surrounded by, the TV and her friends at school can't be beat. And yes she goes around singing the latest music even though she probably doesn't know what things mean... yet.
