When I'm driving in the U.S., I'll let people in front of me when approaching merges just so it doesn't bottleneck traffic and people behind me will get pissed off as if I'm letting them cut in line at the amusement park. Most drivers in Canada will adjust their speed to let you in if they see you signal.
