I dont get people......this graduating senior, complained to the dean of administration in my school that it's not fair for athletes to get priority registration and other college privilages that regular students dont get...and I hear the same complaints all the time!
well if you know how much we go through during practice sessions (3.5 hrs a day) everyday even sometimes on Holidays, I think we deserve it all......
It's sooo awesome that we get athletic scholarships, athletic counseling, private tutoring, traveling across the Nation, and having some of the best experiences in life. But being an athlete is not as easy as it sounds......
I'm on Cal Poly Pomona's women's tennis team (NCAA II)I do get athletic scholarships, and enjoy all the extra privilages, but its a hard work, dedication, spending too much time out of class during season, and also maintaining a high GPA...
so, I think it's fair (but im an athlete) . What do u guys think?

Don't get me started on this.

So what if it's 3.5 hours/day (that's not even 20 hours/week...I calculated only the weekdays into the equation, so 5 days)? I held 2 jobs (~30 hours/week) during my freshman year as a full-time student, but heck, no one gave ME extra priviledges. I worked to pay the bills, not to buy some selfish xxxx for me. I've worked every semester since I was 15 (at least 20 hours/week), with the exception of last and the current one. What can I say, I can't stand the treatment that athletes get, they don't earn it, no not really.

I'm against the special privileges too. I think it's all given to increase the school's reputation and image.

well we're playing for the school's name, and mostly giving it a good reputation....I mean some schools aren't even known without their athletic teams!

Exactly. The privileges don't go to the most deserving and most hard working. They just go to those who can increase the school's reputation.

3.5 hours of on court practice a day, I'm not counting how much time we spend at the weight room, or during competition, and a lot of paper work hours, and other requirements that regular students dont even know about .like "study hall" that we have to do about 5 hours a week..and really goes on and on....

Yea, but I have some athlete friends, and the easiness of the classes they take can induce laughter in me any day. On the other hand, the classes that more serious students take (i.e. premed, engineering, comp sci, poli sci) take a xxxxload more time than any of your practices combined.

Are you saying that academics are less important than athletics? Isn't that what higher-education is for, academics?
