Being a feminist and strong advocate for women's and girl's rights and development does not preclude me from being warm and loving mother. On the contrary, given that my husband and I are perceived by the kids as warm, caring, fun-loving, and respectful of their needs, my sense is that we're never quite going to have an empty nest.

I can tell this isn't true simply by the way you come off sounding like a robot or someone throwing out a sales pitch.

What kind of moron would leave an Armenian household. Even my odar friends knew where to go when they were hungry.

I don't know... I had some Italian friends growing up, and some Greek friends, and one or two Georgian friends later on, and they could all give any Armenian household a run for its money.

Also, even though I am, as Mos would put it, of the Enlightened camp, I spend majority of my time in the kitchen cooking for my family, and my kids' friends already recognize me as the go-to mom for good eating.

Let me guess. That's how your parents did it, and you turned out just fine, right?

Teen pregnancy would also not happen if parents took sex education upon themselves rather than leaving it for schools to handle. By this I mean age-appropriate conversations about sex and sexuality from early on. Both my kids (8 & 6) are aware of how babies are made and how they are born. They ask questions freely and we answer honestly, but with language that makes sense to them. When they are ready, we will talk about contraception with them. By the time my daughter becomes sexually active, presumably long before she is ready to marry or settle with a partner of either gender (I will welcome whomever she loves and who loves her with open arms, regardless of race, gender, religion), she will know all about the function of her cl;toris, and that she is in great part responsible for her own orgasms. And yes, should my daughter, despite my best efforts, become pregnant, I will support her in obtaining a safe abortion. Similarly with my son, he will be very aware of how to be a loving partner to another human being, all about the female genital anatomy (provided, of course, he orients toward women), and how to work with it. All of this by simply keeping communication lines open and receiving questions and answering them without shaming or judgment. They will both know, by direct exposure, what it is like to have a totally dependent other human being, aka a baby.

Humans have sex. That's what they do. They do it because the survival of the species depends upon sex being a powerful and pleasurable experience.

They will make great slaves.
