Most of our genes come from peasants? Do you have any idea how wealthy many Armenians were prior to the genocide? They owned deeds to homes, businesses and farmland.... they didn't "rent" or "mortgage" their living space.

Sounds like they were probably richer as a whole when their masters weren't Armenian nakharars, but Ottomans. Sound familiar to Armenians today living in the diaspora?

The land passed down to us by our ancestors was never truly owned either. If you're talking about our Armenian lands for example.... Most of our genes come from peasants who basically had a deal similar to the parking lot example you speak of... Work on the land without rest, and sleep in your little lodging at night. If there's no famine (aka, the economy is doing good or ok), you'll be able to eat bread with your family. If there is a famine (the economy is bad), you'll be hungry, suspicious and greedy, and the rich nakharars that you serve will be threefold so.

If you're talking about our nomadic ancestors who didn't so much own the land as follow their nose to the next grazing area for their hunt, the same realities of abundance and scarcity will hold. This can only mean that civilization is a spinoff of something more primordial, where we always have sought out to live, to express emotions of joy, sadness, to develop skills and use our creativity to eat and play with more and more of the universe.

With each generation's death, a renewal of human life came about, to re-experience the Earth, it's challenges and rewards, it's curiosities. It is only natural to expect the same today. If old mentalities and traditions are to have lasting merit, they must be accessible to the individual to reinterpret along modern needs, otherwise they can only serve as memorized adages that are adhered to without any deeper thought.

In order to live in the city, we have to pay taxes, pay prices for housing, food, shelter, etc... The rich are able to do so with more in their pocket at the end of the day, but they live with inner expectations and standards that they've inherited either through compliance or rejection of their social upbringing.

Developers in Toronto are asking an average price of $55,000 per year for a parking spot... yes, the space to put your car is worth more than the car itself. Sure, if you're making a decent salary, you can afford it but at the end of the day, it's not yours. Now, imagine if you still lived on the land that was passed down from your ancestors.....

Characteristics and traits are inherited from parents and more broadly, society. If you left children to be raised by wolves, they would genuinely adopt those characteristics. As far as an individual choosing their path in life, the paths that someone can take are limited by the doors that others open or don't open for them. Essentially, a woman's ability to engage in extramarital affairs is largely due in part by society finding it acceptable. The culture that's being adopted around the world right now is temporary and unsustainable as there aren't enough resources available every individual to live in a bubble, free of being bound by family units and social circles. Basically, the breakdown of the family unit was just a precursor to enslaving the individual and robbing people of their inheritance, whether land or monetary. You'll find that in most of the larger cities, individuals have widely accepted that making monthly payments and leasing their living spaces is just part of life. I suppose one can say that the "American Dream" of owning property has come to an end... quite abruptly due to the breakdown of the family unit.

Throughout history, people of all social classes have lived some form of dependance on leased existence, because as long as we are dependent on our modes of consumption, we never really "own" anything in a permanent sense, we merely secure sources of temporary satisfaction according to how well we can pay/trade for them. For a landlord to "own" land, he has to pay all sorts of taxes and gestures to the government and the community he/she lives in in order to keep it in his name. It is a constant battle, and the fear of losing it is what fuels aggressive greed.

The family unit, just like any other form of community, is a breeding ground for telling individuals how they ought to live their lives according to a principled existence that has no eyes to look into our inherent differences. In short, it is not very good at accounting for invisible differences between us, which leads to clashes and people splitting off, unless people are made afraid of doing so.

This does not dispel the problem though, it merely leads the individual to keep their differences that make them feel awkward around their "brethren", hidden. It is especially painful when this hiding occurs when these "brethren" insult or attack the very thing the individual is hiding, be it differences of sexual orientation, political or spiritual beliefs, musical opinions or anything that evokes some sentiment of difficulty in grasping something that everyone else takes for granted as simple and straightforward.

The American dream is just another mentality that steals from one group (Native Americans) and promises bounty to another (immigrants), all the while the greediest get the biggest share and are never satisfied. Thus it's useless to defend some motto, some call to "the good ol days" because the good ol days never were really that good, and the promises they represent to us are only as useful as they are realistic, which they are not for the majority.

Afghanistan has *everything* to do with opium. Follow the money and the weapons. They go in one direction. Narcotics go in the other, as does human trafficking. YOU are truly clueless. You should read real sources, not the tabloids.
