Last names

Mine is nice and easy to pronounce, somewhat Britishised, and they often don't even use it, because I have 2 last names, the dash type thing...

why is it that most (almost all) Armenian last names end with a
-yan or -ian?

another question: my last name ends with -ts, well it ends with -iants, but how come mine ends with -ts rather then just -ian, does anybody know any history behind it?

and don't say that my last name is the only last name that ends with -ts, b/c one of my very close friends (who is Armenian) last name also ends with -ts and i've heard and read of several other Armenians whose last name ends with -ts or -tz

please solve the mystery

I remember I had a friend with Fatahi last name. She is Armenian and she said the reason is b/c her great grand father changed the last name to this so they could escape from Turks. I guess this can happen too.

A lot of Istanbul-Armenians (or "bolsahye") have last names that end in 'oglu'. Either that or they have removed their 'ian' or 'yan' to avoid Turkish prejudice. Most of them change it back when they immigrate to other countries.
