All I gotta say is avoid the I-40 in Arkansas and the I-10 in Texas at all costs. Route 666 is neat, just for the novelty value and for Shiprock Point, but I think the governor of NM renamed it.

Amen. It's funny the way the road changes as soon as you cross the Mississippi. Potholes everywhere.

I wish I had the time... I'd have to drive though. I get crazy motion sickness unless I'm driving. Especially windy drives like up the coast of CA.

The best scenic route I've taken was up to San Luis Obispo, and then further up to Hearst Castle, via the the 101 North and then Pacific Coast Highway. That's the most beautiful road, as opposed to my trip to Tahoe and Vegas, which are ugly desert roads.

Nothing beats the drive up via Santa Barbara, and up Pismo Beach ( the best beach in the world for surfing and for tan ) and then up San Luis...

Two instances come to mind: Sioux Falls, SD to Chicago, Il (O'hare Airport; 600 miles) and Sioux Falls, SD to Los Angeles, CA (permanent move; 1800 miles). I wouldn't classify those as road trips, in the true meaning of the phrase, though. For the second trip, we had to make a stop in AZ in the sizzling summer heat since the car overheated - I was watching the heat "rise off the ground" for a good half an hour...just about passed out. Don't remember too much of the scenery - my butt was too numb.

Tulsa, Oklahoma to Los Angeles (moved to LA)
it was a nice scenic drive, saw 3 doors down at a joint across from my hotel in Arizona.

Los Angeles, CA to Austin, TX (gig)....loved Austin!!! Got crap from the Texas Highway Patrol (damn redneck with the stupid big hat)..I haven't eaten so much beef jerky before in my life

coming up....Drives back to Austin, Tulsa and Montana (dont ask)
