you have no idea how many ignorant people I have met who went to an all white/christian private school who no nothing about other cultures, nor do they have any respect for them. (i'm not saying that all students who go to private schools are ignorant) by going to a school that has a diverse population I met so many people with various backgrounds and have remained friends with them
Anyways to answer your question: It opened the door for me to the Real World, not just the all American, white/black, western world.

It's a major advantage, since we live in such a diverse country. You learn to deal with different types of people, and you are exposed to a much broader experience, rather than a closed narrow one.

That is a moot argument. Assuming that since someone goes to an all white school he is ignorant, ignores the fact that one can find ignorant people in mixed schools. That is no more of a reason to cite diversity as an advantage than to say we "learn about cultures". Learning about cultures doesn't entail having to go to a diverse school. One can very well learn about them via books, reading, encyclopedias, anthropology, or history. Moreover, everyone has "consumer culture" written all over them, from the clothes they wear to the music they listen, so that's hardly an argument for "learning to deal with them", life in general is learning to deal with stuff period. I'm still left wondering how diversity is a strength. If anything it is a weakness, but then again we are taught one-way things in school, are we not?

I never said that all students that go to an all white private school are ignorant..just as I know that there are still ignorant people in puble, diverse schools...but being around diverse people brings a plus to your education...when your learning about Islam, or problems in Africa in your classroom that is one thing..but when your actually able to talk with someone who follows the Islam religion or with someone from Sudan who has had more drama in his life than one can imagine,now that is completely different..you really feel the intensity of it all, something I dont think people would be able to grasp while reading a book

Why not? Do we not grasp about Rome while reading a book? There are no Romans now. Furthermore, is this the only supposed plus side of diversity? If diversity was so great, it wouldn't be forced onto people, but since it is, well, there you go, just another political ploy. So hence I'd rather send my children to an Armenian school, or homeschool, than to the worthless failed public school system.

It's tragic how many people on this forum are ignorant, politically correct, brainwashed products of the public school system. So I'll have to go with Anonymouse on this one. That is one of the reasons I'd send my kids to an Armenian school.

yes you do grasp it, but all you basically grasp is the feelings that the author of the particular book feels towards it,so its really not your own feelings..maybe its just me, but I have more feelings and emotions when I hear the stories from someone that has actually lived it.
I agree..I too would send my own kids to an Armenian school if that was available, but what if your only choices where: diverse public school, all white private school, or an all christian private school. which would you choose?
I am not anti-white nor am I anti-Christian, but these private schools feed more propoganda then public schools, I know this by listening to what a lot of the kids I babysit, who all go to private schools, say about other religions and other races.
maybe it is just the perception you get from the public school system in LA, since it is such a large city and all...but I grew up in a city made up of only 85000 people,my school consisted of only 1200 students, where the principle knew me by my first name.

Definitely not diversihell. I'd go with the all white private school, but there is no such thing, because it's considered racist (whereas all-black schools are not. go figure)...
