School Diversity

Look kiddo, whoever whined that I was oppressed? the question is not about being oppressed or not. the question is about Armenian schools vs. odar schools. the problem with diversity is that smaller nations run the risk of getting off-balance and mixing two cultures too much that their own culture would be depleted. i don't care about diversity if mixing is not forced upon us by various methods such as the stigma of being racist if one is going to an all-white or all-Christian school.

Yeah, I think I do..

Anyway, there is a very very small chance I'd send my kid to a non-Armenian school, and that's only in highschool when the kid already knows the language, culture, history, etc. I know some parents complain that Armenian schools don't have any extracurricular activities such as sports, etc., but there's always separate training things for each sport, and the community centers for other activities such as chess, etc. That's hardly an excuse.. I don't see a logical excuse for taking your kid out of Armenian elementary school. At LEAST elementary school - I understand the problem with high schools.

I don't see how diversity is forced onto people, I actually think so many people, especially parents, including my own, who are agianst their children making friends and interacting with people of different races and religions.

Maybe at work... but I agree... my parents wanted me to have armenian friends too...

I have ONE Armo friend that I hang out w/ sometimes. I have one school friend, but she doesn't really count cuz I can't stand her.

Otherwise I have white, korean, phillipino, and chinese friends, oh yeah, and persian.

I love that... everyone brings something different to the table. Their experiences are less similar to the experiences of other armenian children, but we are still enough alike that we get along great.
In fact I think other than my upbringing, i have more in common with a lot of them than I do w/ other armenians.

That's funny so because you can find you get along with non-Armenians therefore it MUST be diversity. Talk about fallacious reasoning. I have no news for you. It's not diversity but that all too human trait that there are good and bad in all. I can very well find Armenians that I get along with and say "Oh look I get along with them and its not diversity". There is nothing about having friends who are non-Armenians. I myself have tons. That still isn't an argument of diversity as a strength.

Basically "diversity" is the just weakness. It is the illusion of the 20th century.

Hey wait a minute I thought this was 'everyone's country'? Isn't that why we are so diverse? There is no one group that can claim it as their own, right? So wouldn't your assertion contradict that?

Diversity makes it easier to make friends of other backgrounds. That's a strength. It creates an opportunity to make friends with people you may not have met otherwise.

So they let him in because diversity is a good idea? Rather, they let him in because he was a potential person for further advancing the cause of capitalism. Get it right. Do you really think they would give up their entire land just for the sake of a CONCEPT called diversity? Get real.
