Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

"The whole point of these types of films is to move people..which they do".

its more to make money that they make these holocaoust movies , like ten each year.

Its funny how the show it on television while jews are murdering and harrasing the non-jewish population that lives in Israel.

Well, they gotta meet the quota of Holocaust films for this decade. Let's see what Hollywood will pop up with next.

I vividly remember that day when Marlon Brando chided Jews on Larry King because they run Hollywood, he was made to apologize and wear the yamulka as he apologized. Behold the power of Jewry.

I loved Marlon Brando for that. They made a joke about it, on SNL I believe. Norm MacDonald was doing the fake news and said something to the following effect: "Marlon Brando was made to appologize this week for making a comment about Jews owning Hollywood. Shortly after his appologie, he was allowed to begin working again."

Any attempt to push the art boulder and break new ground is frowned upon. What do you want film to do? You want our genocide to be depicted by shytty, formulaic Hollywood movies designed as political tools with the sole purpose of drawing empty sympathy out of people? Phuck that. I would like to be respected as people who deal with things artistically and cleverly and not fishers of cheap sympathy with tired cinematic tools.

This is what I wrote about Ararat...

This is what another person, who is knowledgeable and who's opinion I respect, wrote about it (and I believe he is Jewish)....

You're missing the point. I don't give a crap about artistic value of either of these movies.

The fact is that both of these movies are propagandas, this way or the other.
The point of propaganda is to gain and penetrate as much targeted audience as possible.

the Armenian film fails partially because Egoyan tries to squeeze in his "artistic stuff". Believe me, if artistic expression was the point of either of these stories, Roman Polanski (the guy who rapes a 13 year old in Jack Nicholson's house) would have a lot more of a wild imagination than Egoyan.

Yes, absolutely! I want it be shytty, cheesy, formulaic or whatever you want to call it, as long as it maximizes the amount of people that will watch it and will spread the word, ..... because without the people's sympathy you will not get the genocide recognized. We consist of a small country, with no significant natural resources, with a tiny number of Armenians spread all over the world (who use any opportunity to differentiate themselves from the OTHER kind of Armenian)

The ONLY tool we have is sympathy of the world. And yes, I do think if Armenians can get that sympathy, we should commercialize on it, build memorials in every major city, use the money to lobby politicians for Armenian interests, and use this sympathy in our advantage 100% shamelessly.

Wow admin, nice stuff. I'm surprised you posted this much, this is the first time you've posted something this long. I agree with the brunt of your argument, and I would add on however that Armenian directors learn from Jews on how to portray their films.

I agree with what the admin said, I'd rather have a glitsy movie that 10 million people see, then an artsy one that 100,000 see.

The reason I don't post much is because I'm usually busy with other stuff, and don't get a chance to reply and follow-up.

I've put the forum link back up on A/C homepage, so that there'll be more fresh meat for you carnivores to feast on. .... lol ... no, be nice with the newbies.

i saw this site about the armenian genocide, and it looked like they were Advertising, and propagating the genocide of the armenians 1915. Because the site didn't follow the standards, both in how it is designed and how the matter is prestented and articles etc, the consequense becomes this; it looks like propaganda! why should we care on how other people sees it?quality of how we represent the genocie is nessasary, because we dont want to be misstaken for albanian UCK gerilla, or bosnian media, or azeri turkish media.

Nobody can possibly blame Egoyan for not "living down" to the standards Armenians wanted the movie to be.
Shytty, cheesy and formulaic movies are not his thing, and he shouldn't start making them now. Egoyan said it himself: another director should have made one of those movies before he made Ararat.

And if our only tool is sympathy, we are screwed forever.
Just look at Tibet....EVERYBODY has sympathy for the Tibetans. I'd be surprised if they're still around 50 years from now.
