I'm not sure what I think of Apple laptops ... at this point, I still think Apple ain't worth it. For some reason people have this image of the "mac" as something that doesn't crash but they sure as heck have their share of problems. They do make some of the sexiest stuff out there though.

There was a girl sitting next to me on a flight a couple of months ago trying to organize some pictuers and videos she had taken on her trip on her Powerbook ... in addition to being HORRIBLY slow, the thing just completely turned off in the middle of what she was doing and wouldn't turn back on until she picked it up, and shook it a few times Granted who knows how that laptop had been treated but it was funny as hell to watch it happen.
    this post = teh win.

If I get a warranty it will only be for one year. My thinking is if the harsdware is defective it will show up early. Anybody disagree?

Also I should mention I plan on hooking the laptop to a cellphone for occasional internet use.
Do NOT get HP or Compaq laptops for sure.

Between Toshiba and Dell, just price what you want between the two and w/ 2 or 3 warranty get whichever is cheaper.

Things do break or die and you should have more than 1 yr warranty. My b/fs harddrive died after 2.5 yrs. Burner can die too.

I don't think you need to mention the cellphone... if you have the cable to do it it shouldn't be a problem w/ any machine.

Get a Sony laptop, I worked at Comp USA in high school so I became familiar with what was good.

Oook I've hear a lot of conflicting testimony. By the way....can I change out all the parts just like on a pc? (i.e. - hardrive, cd-rom, modems etc...)

Hard drives yes most of the time. PCMCIA cards work with any laptop pretty much. Anything else, no. If something breaks, you almost always have to deal with the vendor. Of course I mean if some hardware actually stops working and not just software/driver problems like any other PC would have.

By the way, don't buy your laptops at CompUSA j/k

Don't pay any attention to those Dell advertisers lol. Get a TOSHIBA. You won't regret it.

I take that as a very serious statement. When I'm browsing comp usa and leave without buying anything I have the urge to check if I have everything I came in with in my pockets.
