Sorry, Gevorg is not an Armenian Name. It is the Armenized form of George the patron Saint of England. Yes the dragon slayer. But, I believe the name comes from the Greeks. And, you do not want to know the true story of saint George ( if it is true, as told by Gibbon ).

Armenians have had a lot of contact with the Greeks in the past if I'm not mistaken so yeah, Gevorg could be an Armenized version of George or something. We might've took that name from the Greeks themselves actually. It's a possibility.

Doubtful, Armenians predate the Greeks by way of the Hurrians and the Urartians, Greeks by their own account historically traced their lineage to Asia Minor, claiming to have migrated from there by historical account, the earliest Greek (Minoan) civilisation started near the islands of Crete and Cyprus, who by their accounts migrated from Asia Minor (Anatolia/Middle East)

Are you sure about this Ara? My name is Sarkis/Sako, not Serge. Have you heard of St./Surp Sarkis? Not every name in Armenian has an English equivelant. The name Sergei or Serge has nothing to do with Sarkis. They are three different names ... all used in Armenia. My brother's name is Sergei (my Uncle's son). And Serge or Serojya was my grandfathers name.

I think you've got the wrong idea partner. Let's go through this again.

Sako, your Grandfather would have been called Sergei too, Seroje is a familiar for that name, (I have an Uncle Seroje) but English letters can't get the pronunciation, again!!

Not in all cases. Some people are Seroje ALONE! They don't call themselves Sergei. My name has nothing to do with the these names though. I very much doubt they do.
