        a race is not genetic... it is a cognitive creation by us... many scientists have found that there are no "races" per se, but rather cultures/tribes/groups, etc...

          That is untrue. It is as genetic as anything else, otherwise we wouldn't see the differences that we do. What isn't a "cognitive creation" might I add? Since we perceive reality through the mind everything is ipso facto a "social construct" so this argument doesn't fly.

                It depends on what you are really asking. Are you asking if a society must first be racist before it practices slavery? The answer to that is an obvious no, because people can be enslaved for reasons that have nothing to do with their race. Or are you asking if racism existed, anywhere in any form, before slavery did? If that is the question, it cannot be answered. We don't have records that go back far enough. Who's to say whether or not stone-age men were racist, or whether or not they enslaved each other?
