What do you believe is true even though you can not prove it?

The one's I agree with are God, psychic power, and maybe- reincarnation and life after death..

We'll be able to prove if aliens are real one day don't you think? Well, if they ARE real, we'll see them one day and prove it or some xxxx..

Anyone know what a priori means. I'm not absolutely for certain but a lot of authors have used it, like Jung, Hitler, and Einstein. And it's written in italics just like that. What I've deduced is that it means, something you beleive in, even though you can't prove it. For example; evolution is an a priori example. a priori in Latin means 'first of all'. In my opinion that is very cool. Probably one of my favorite words.

I've heard a priori and a posteriori in the context of research design, interpretation and stats.

An a priori comparison for example is one that is specified before the experiment was done or prior to looking at the data.

I was reading about this today, and I thought it was interesting. There are some things people believe to be true, but they can't prove it. For example: God, religion, evolution, psychic power, aliens/UFOs, reincarnation, life after death, etc. What are some things you just know is true but have no proof for it?

There is a word to describe those people: "Idiots".

Never heard of those. What are synthetic truths. I can guess, synthetic means fake or produced, so a synthetic truth could be something believed to be true because you made yourself beleive it somehow. Am I right. That's just a guess, but if you want you can explain it to me.

Yah because there is a LOT more evidence of the latter stuff than evolution, right? I simply cannot follow this thought process ... how can one so easily dismiss evolution, yet so easily embrace the notion of God?

I am not sure if any of those holds much water but I am not about to dismiss one for the other just because of some gut feeling. At least there is some evidence to back up evolution. Where is the evidence that there ever was a God other than the words in some book that is declared to be true and not to be questioned?

Easily embrace the notion of God? What do you easily embrace? Maybe you can easily embrace that Teddy Bear as you cry yourself to sleep, because you feel cold and lonely in this cruel world. But that is just an a priori assumption of mine, but then again, does it matter?
