I just came home from an orthodantist appointment where I was sent by my dentist to be treated for teeth crowding and TMJ (Jaw joints too tense).

After examining me he basically said that there is nothing he can do. Its not a matter of crooked teeth. My jaw is poorly alligned and my teeth are crowded even though I've had my wisdom teeth pulled already. I have pain in my jaw joints when I move them and I can't smile showing my teeth cause it looks crooked. I have to smile without teeth to stay normal looking.

I was optimistic and did not worry, because I had the attitude that I would fix it... now it looks as though there isn't much hope for that.

This problem first became apparent when I was 12 or 13 and my dentist suggested treatment, but my mother didn't think it was important. I asked her to let me have it, but she did not. The orthodantist said that my mother should have taken me to a specialist when it first appeared, because now it is too late.

I don't even wanna tell my mother this. She will just say something like, "Oh well, millions of people have it - you'll live." One more reason for me to not want to be like her.

    I'm a little depressed now...

I'm not sure I understood the problem, but can he pull any other teeth to make room?

After my wisdom teeth were pulled, the teeth just spaced back out and are still very crowded. I mean, how many teeth would he have to pull for me to feel a difference when 4 didn't do it? Four more?

Honestly, I would agree if it would fix the problem, but I guess that isn't a way to fix it, otherwise he would have suggested it. He specializes in cosmetic dentistry, so he would know...right?

I am thinking that I should check with a TMJ specialist now. Then move on to cosmetics again maybe. I don't wanna give up, especially when there is pain involved. The easthetics are not that important at this point, I look pretty enough when I smile without teeth anyway. Noone is forcing me to smile big.

I think I can handle this (God knows I've handled worse), but it's the issue with my mother that makes me depressed. She has failed me so many times already. I don't even know how to bring this up without hating her.

When I got braces, I had two non-wisdom teeth pulled and my brother had 4 pulled.
        Yeah, check with the specialist.

You and your brother were how old when this was done? Remember he said that it's the timing. My mother should have taken me at 12, and it could have been fixed.

I am gonna have to have a long talk with my God Mother...

Well, things went like I expected. My mother either feels no responsibility or doesn't want to show that she does.

            I will see other experts.

And for the purposes of being topical, my jaw joints have been hurting alot lately, but it's for some other reason I presume.

Maybe he's been giving too many bj's?
