Yeah, thats exactly how their beds are. I havent heard of anyone falling either, and I know people who sleep without the bar...Im just easily scared.

I can definitely see the positives of a dorm, as Ive mentioned, but I really am leaning towards the apartment now. I will let you guys know on Thursday if I like it. I havent seen it yet.

also, in the dorm, you dont have to worry about cleaning the restrooms or washing your own dishes. everything gets cleaned everyday, so all you need are your shower slippers and you're good to go. it's less of a hastle.

Yes, but in the meantime (till they are cleaned), you're sharing the restrooms with disease infected college girls. And (I guess this part would depend on the city the school is in -weather it's a college town or not-) everything you mentioned as pros for a dorm are very possible in most apartments within the schools vacinity. For example, EVERYONE living in my sister's apartment complex' are students at the school, so it is exactly the same invironment you described.

I just can't see a stuffy dorm room matching up against living in an apartment. You said if you don't want to see anyone, you can shut the door. Are you going to shut the door on your roommates? At least in an apartment, with your own individual room, you can have complete privacy whenever you wish. Your bedroom alone is damn near the size of the entire living quarters in a dorm room. Then you have a kitchen the size of the door room, a living room the size of the dorm room, bathroom to yourself(selves), etc. I just think there's no comparison.

I'd go with the apartment as well. It's just more confortable to have space to yourself and a larger shared area. From what I've heard, though I've never lived in dorms myself, it can get pretty loud and distracting.

Well it is an upper classmen dorm, it doesn't really get bad. I agree though. Can't beat a private bedroom (with a normal bed!)

It is a college town, yes. The houses are all filled with grad students and upper classmen. So I will be sorrounded by students anyway in a sense. Plus, I will be in three clubs.

About the chores and having things cleaned daily: thats a really good point...Ive never washed a dish in my life...but maybe thats how Ill learn? lol

You know when my cousin told me, and my mom was ok with it, I was like...this isnt really happening lol An apartment seems so much more independent. I didnt even consider it.

I lived in University housing all four years I was at school and I loved it. Fortunately I didn't have to deal with the dorm type of living because I chose to stay in the apartment style rooms with a kitchen and your own bathroom. I liked it way better than having to deal with the whole communal bathroom thing, not to mention having to have food that I would be ever so picky about that I'd have to eat at those certain times when the cafeteria is open (I knew people who had to leave class early just to get to the cafeteria before it closed, not that the food was appetizing anyway) . So, I think your apartment sounds like a good idea. It's cheaper by more than 2 grand and I highly doubt you'll buy 2 grand worth of food in the amount of time you stay there. Cooking for yourself ensures you'll eat what you want and not just what's on the menu, it can be much healthier than dorm food, and doing chores are a great way to 'grow up' and learn how to manage your time to get things done. As for the walk to class, getting some fresh air is always good for you and if you have something late at night get a buddy to walk with you. Maybe a roomate? Good luck.

You may have better luck studying and doing homework in an apartment than in a dorm but this is assuming you care about that little detail

In the end, it is all going to depend pretty much entirely on who your rommates are.

I still live with my parents and damn proud. Doesn't strain the wallet either.
