Oh look! You have made a religion of song lyrics in the Irony of Religion thread! Ha!

“Irony is best known as a figure of speech (more precisely called verbal irony) in which there is a gap or incongruity between what a speaker or a writer says, and what is understood. It can also be considered a twist of fate where an eventual event relates back to a particular quote.”
“Irony: a leading part of humor. Irony is using words to express something completely different from the literal meaning. Usually, someone says the opposite of what they mean and the listener believes the opposite of what they said.” http://library.thinkquest.org/J00226...s_of_humor.htm
“Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore…” – Dorothy, Wizard of OZ
Here, go ahead, eavesdrop on some ‘gods’ debate…
-- Wordplay, Jason Mraz
I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's
Yeah the Mister A to Z
They say I'm all about the wordplay
You want a new song
Like a new religion
Music for the television
I can't do the long division
Someone do the math…
I built a bridge across the stream of consciousness
That always seems to be a flowin'…
Are you listening to a single word I've said?
Ah La La La La
Listen closely to the words I say
Ah La La La La
I'm stickin' to the wordplay
--Only God Can Judge Me, Tupac (for One-way) And hocus pocus try to focus but I can't see
And in my mind I'm a blind man doin’ time
Oh my Lord, tell me what I'm livin’ for
Everybody's droppin’ got me knockin’ on heaven's door
--Walkin on the Sun, Smashmouth
Mr. Wizard can't perform no godlike hocus-pocus
--You And Me Of The 10,000 Wars, Indigo Girls Try making one and one make one…
Watch the wizard behind the curtain
the larger than life and the power of seeming certain.
The evil ego and the vice of pride
is there ever anything else that makes us take our different sides?
--Mad About You, Sting
A stone's throw from Jerusalem
I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight
And though a million stars were shining
My heart was lost on a distant planet
Though all my kingdoms turn to sand and fall into the sea
I'm mad about you, I'm mad about you
--Hook, Blues Traveler
It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection…
Of hip three minute diddys I wanna bust all your balloons…
“There's no place like home.” Dorothy, Wizard of OZ
My goals include (and yes, this thread has meaning) here:
1. God exists. NO doubt. People have lots of names for, though.
2. Science is the best thing we've got, so far, to understand the biophysical world in which we live.
3. If human beings destroy nature (which they depend upon, for LIFE) that isn't a good chess move. Environmentalists are one move ahead of the best chess player.

I wonder. Would men really LIKE a woman 'on top' (that means lots... literally/sexually, and socially, politically, and...)
--All This Time, Sting
Blessed are the poor, for they shall inherit the earth
Better to be poor than a fat man in the eye of a needle
And as these words were spoken I swore I hear
The old man laughing
'What good is a used up world and how could it be
Worth having'
And all this time the river flowed
Endlessly like a silent tear
And all this time the river flowed Father, if Jesus exists,
Then how come he never lived here
One by one
One by one...
--When You're On Top, Wallflowers
I’m doing better than I thought I would But nothing’s ever as good
As when you’re on top
Well I remember
When they hadn’t gotten to you yet
The Wallflowers "When You're On Top": I need a bed, that nobody's slept in I need some air, nobody's been breathing I need a thought, that...
--WONDER, Natalie Merchant
Doctors have come
from distant cities
just to see me
stand over my bed
disbelieving what they're seeing
They say I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation and as far as they see they can offer
no explanation
newspapers ask
intimate questions
what confessions
they reach into my head
to steal the glory
of my story
they say I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as they see they can offer
no explanation
I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"
people see me I'm a challenge
to your balance
I'm over your heads
how I confound you
and astound you
to know I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as you see you can offer me
no explanation
I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as she came to my mother
"know this child will not suffer"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"
And here is a little more to perplex, astound, motivate and inspire…
(It's a riddle. )
--Imagine, John Lennon
--I Can Only Imagine, Mercy Me
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
--Mercy Me (the Ecology), Marvin Gaye Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Radiation in the ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land? How much more abuse from man can you stand?
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
--My Sweet Lord, George Harrison
I really want to be with you.
--Take It Easy, Eagles It's a girl, my Lord!…
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me
--Trouble, Ray LaMontagne
We'll I've been saved
by a woman.
I've been saved by a woman.
--Covenant Woman, Bob Dylan
I just got to thank you
Once again
For making your prayers known
Unto heaven for me
And to you, always, so grateful
I will forever be.
--Throwing Stones, Grateful Dead
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
Dizzy with eternity. Paint it with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea Call it home for you and me.
A peaceful place or so it looks from space
A closer look reveals the human race. Full of hope, full of grace, is the human face.
But afraid, we may our home to waste…
And the politicians throwing stones…
selling guns instead of food today.
Heartless powers try to tell us what to think
If the spirit's sleeping, then the flesh is ink…
And the whole world full of petty wars
Singing "I got mine and you got yours."
--Peacekeeper, Fleetwood Mac
Only creatures who are on their way
Ever poison their own well
But we still have time to hate
And there's still something we can sell?…
You know all of our friends are gods
And they all tell us how to paint our face
But there's only one brush we need
It's the one that never leaves a trace
--Let It Be Me, Indigo Girls
I heard the strain of the common man
Let it be me (this is not a fighting song)
Let it be me (not a wrong for a wrong)
Let it be me, if the world is night Shine my life like a light
Well the world seems spent
andthe President has no good idea of who the masses are
Well I'm one of them, and I'm among friends
--Father and Daughter, Paul Simon
I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you’ll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loves his daughter more than I love you
Trust your intuition
It's just like going fishing
You cast your line
And hope you get a bite
But you don't need to waste your time
Worrying about the market place Try to help the human race Struggling to survive it's harshest night
--Smashmouth
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer Not a trace, of doubt in my mind
--Every Breath You Take, Police
Every move you make…
I'll be watching you
Since you've gone I’ve been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby, please
(and, for some fun… that “silly little fairy” )
--(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty, KC & The Sunshine Band
--Sweet Goddess of Love and Beer, Popa Chubby
A drink of your lovin
Makes my pain disappear
MY SWEET sweet Goddess
Of Love and beer
