Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Here in L.A. ... Travel log

Hello everyone! Hope you all have recovered from the holiday season nicely!

Well I just made it out here to L.A. a little over a week ago and man what a dump!! I'm totally kidding! L.A. is insanely nice!! I'm sure there are areas that are dumpy and I've already heard which areas to stay clear of, but comparatively speaking this is easily one of the prettier cities in the U.S., especially if mountains and the ocean/beach are your thing. One of the great things about L.A. is, unlike many ppls ideas that you have to choose one or the other (mountains or the ocean) when deciding where to live, you don't have to compromise here! I love that ... much more to do than in mountain-less land-locked Atl.

So I drove the whole way with whatever could fit in my car which isn't a whole lot. In fact when I got my storage space, only a 5x5, and unloaded my car I barely filled the ground of my unit lol!

The drive itself was pretty hellish. The first day I drove like 12hrs stopping in Fort Worth(less) and the second day I drove I think 15hrs. From Fort Worth to Tucson. Tucson was nice. I had hoped that I would get to see each state I was driving through during the day, but on the second day I drove completely through New Mexico at night and missed, from what my friends have told me, nothing remarkable. One funny thing was the highway stop where the only question they asked me was if I was a U.S. citizen ... I told them "Yes" and was simply allowed to keep moving.

The third day was lighter at about 8hrs to L.A. Went through Indio, Palm Springs and was pretty much grinning ear to ear once I hit California. Palm Springs was cool and the windmill generators were at first very interesting, but quickly became a tad much especially when seeing how many it takes to power one city. I guess solar panel fields must be less efficient. So lucky me I arrived in L.A. at 5pm Thursday. Still everyone tells me I made great time since I left on Tuesday and arrived on Thursday ... no I didn't break any speeding laws as my car couldn't even handle the 80mph zones I was driving through in Texas lmao!!

Ok so upon arriving in L.A. I was trying to drive to my storage facility before they closed and hitting the 101 at 5pm with an hour to get to Chatsworth area. Like the idiot I am I couldn't remember if the nice lady at the facility told me to get off on the 110 or stay on the 101. Later I would find out she wanted me to stay on the 101 but at the time the 110 just seemed soo right! So I get on that insano road, speed through the really dope tunnels at rates that those turns were never designed for ppl to take them at, and then back track to the 101 once I realized that I screwed up. Now I realize that I could have caught a connecting freeway to Chatsworth but after driving for three days I just kept to what I knew ... you know K.I.S.S. Finally I get back to the 101 and take it till I hit Topenga Canyon which is close to where I'm staying now ... the traffic and drivers are the worst thing about this city but there always has to be something suckie..

Got to see the city over the following days and have really grown fond of my new living area. Well anyway hope you enjoyed my Travel Log, I do have some pictures I took from my car when traveling to El Paso through a really pretty section but that's about it. Maybe I'll be able to get those up we'll see! Hope you guys are doing well!

    Hmm, very interesting Lamb Chops.

Are you permanently moving here to L.A. or just visiting? I will definitely support your discovery that this city has the worst drivers and the worst traffic known to man. But what can be done? Stay away from South Central and East L.A. and L.A. is enjoyable. Go into those areas and you may find yourself questioning whether you're in America.

Well I hope it's permanent and even if I go broke, lol, I'm pretty much here for the duration.

I think you already know that I have aspirations to enter the sound design field which is what I went to school for in the first place. Anyway I figure that the odds are more favorable here in L.A. to find work mainly due to the nature of the industries associated with the city and the sheer volume of industry related jobs. I do also understand that there are "X" more ppl looking for the same jobs, but still a year ago I was in Detroit which economically is in a seriously bad place and had hardly any opportunities to boot.

There are a few openings right now at some of the larger game developer companies, so I am updating my online portfolio as quick as I can and crossing my fingers. Funny enough there is a Armenian company here that was also in Detroit. Yessian is their name and they have a very nice site and produce some very interesting spots for T.V. and other mediums.

Well wish me luck all the same I hope it all works out!

For ppl who have lived their whole lives here not venturing out of L.A. too much I don't know if they know how wonderful it is and how great they have it?!? lol The drivers do suck though ...

Oh and it totally feels like a different country ... especially after driving across the entire continent! lmao

Yea, the most amazing part of L.A. is the weather. The traffic and the drivers are the worst.

But hopefully you end up working at that armo company and I wish the best of luck.

By the way, the valley sucks.

Gonna have to disagree. I've not seen much worse drivers and street traffic due to horrible/no planning.

do you think there are more bad parts of LA than there are good ones?

I like looking at LA w/ Google Earth and its mind blowing how many friggin neighborhoods there in that place. When you look at compton or south central from above, all the houses look nice, and there are nice big green trees and cars parked on the road. It's hard to imagine what could be wrong with the neighborhoods.
