Homosexuality is not a societal ill. Homelessness, drug abuse, single teen parents, domestic violence - these are societal ills. Homosexuality is the least of anybody's worries. Furthermore, marriage will not increase the amount of homosexuals in the world. All it would do is extend an open hand to them, allowing them to join the rest of society and letting them no that they are not hated and they are not judged for being what they naturally are. You may not like it and you may not find it normal, but the simple fact is, that is their nature. It is in some persons' natures to murder and rape each other. This is not pleasant, but it is natural. This is the kind of behavior we should be regulating, not a person's sexual preference.
Homosexuality is here to stay. There is nothing any of you can do about it. Ostracizing these people and forcing them back into the closet may appease your sorry sense of righteous disgust, but it will only exacerbate the real problem here - the fact that a significant portion of the population is being discriminated against because of sexual preference. In case you haven't read a job application lately, that's illegal. If two people love each other and want to spend the rest of their life together, then they should be able to crystallize their feelings the same way that the rest of society does, in marriage. We're not talking holy matrimony here. Your church and your God do not have to recognize the love between two people of the same sex. Nonetheless, this nation has a stated obligation not to discriminate against people because of race, religion, creed, age, or sexual preference. This is the law, and not allowing homosexuals to marry is in violation of this basic principle of human decency.
I voted yes.
